Topic: Test signals for DigiCheck ITU 1770/EBU R128

I don't know if anyone saw my previous message but I am trying to get help using a series of test signals for DigiCheck ITU 1770/EBU R128. The test signals are provided by a company called Qualis Audio. I assumed people would know what I'm talking about because this test routine was featured in Sound on Sound's recent article about the Loudness Wars. The test signals can be found here: http://www.qualisaudio.com/downloads.htm

Is DigiCheck suitable for measure the loudness of program material? Is it compliant with 1770? Does RME accept the validity of Qualis Audio's tests? How do you obtain expected results published by Qualis using DigiCheck?

I need to get moving with this, so if anyone there is able to help that would be greatly appreciated.

You can find tests files directly on the official EBU web page following this link.

Andf it would help to read this forum, as there have been lots of posts when this feature was introduced.

According to the authors of Qualis Audio tech note 2, "Unfortunately these test signals [the basic test signals provided by the EBU] are not comprehensive and some list expected results which are incorrect".

Re: Test signals for DigiCheck ITU 1770/EBU R128

I thought I would share my results:

Qualis Audio Test no. / Expected Result / (My result on DigiCheck)

1. -2.0dbFS (-2.0)
2. -23LKFS (I=-5.4)
3. -23LKFS (I=-21.5)
4. IL=-69.5LKFS (I=-68.6)
5. IL=-8.2 to -7.7LKFS (I=-6.2)
6. IL=-22.5 to -22.0LKFS (I=-19.1)
7. IL=-23.0LKFS (I=.21.4)
8. IL=-23.0LKFS (I=-19.6)
9. IL=-23.0LKFS (I=-19.6)
10. RLA=10.0LU (Loudness Range=10.0LU)
11. RLA=5.0LU (Loudness Range=5.0LU)
12. RLA=20.0LU (Loudness Range=20.0LU)
13. RLA=15.0LU (Loudness Range=15.0LU)
14. RLA=5.0LU (Loudness Range=5.0LU)
15. RLA=15.0LU (Loudness Range=15.0LU)

Some of these results are perfect, some are vaguely in the right ballpark (but are they within a sensible margin for error?), others are just way off the mark.

Any thoughts?

Yes I have read these with interest, especially the thread "New DIGICheck Mac/Windows version with ITU 1770/EBU R128 support" including f1 MADI hero's useful roundup.
