If it is a device and not driver thing: is there a battery?  Could there be a failing flash memory on device?

Everything is working fine, build quality is stellar, but one thing makes me nervous, when touching the chassis, the interface is very hot, on it's right side it's warm hot, but on it's left side it's very hot, can't leave your hand more than 10s. I mounted it in a 4U rack, there is another 2 units mounted (one of them is half 1U) and I left space above and below the ufx.

Is this something to be excepted or a I missing something ?

In the past I could use the Ferrofish MIDI ports, but since the new Windows MIDI Stack arrived they have ceased to work.

I've updated the Windows driver for my MADIface, updated the MADIFace's firmware, and the firmware in the A32s, but all to no avail.

I can see four ports listed for the MADIFace: XT Midi Port1-4. i can select them for output from my DAW, and to all intents they seem to be working as far as my DAW is concerned. But I get no MIDI output from the A32 MIDI connections and the MIDI indicators on the A32s show no activity.

Any advice gratefully received.

usb.madi FW is 18, CC 13

The usb.madi is inserted in a direct out ace device.
It doesn´t matter if src is on or not.

My Mac book is fine and plays without any problems at this port.

Laptop shows 47.xxx kHz, iPhone shows 44.xxx

The iPhone works fine with an usb to XLR adapter at my desk.

Any ideas are welcome

I've been running a Madiface usb for a while on my Mac Studio M2 Max running Tahoe 26.5.1 and decided to purchase a used Madiface XT. I installed the driver_usbdk_mac_430. I did not have to do the steps prior because I did those steps for my UAD Octo. After installing the driver, I did not see the option to "allow" in the security and privacy section of the settings. I just rebooted anyway, still did not see it. The Madiface XT is not coming up in the coreaudio settings, but it is recognized but the system. Not sure what is going on. Any and all help is needed.

I want to add that the madfiface was running with driver dk4.17, prior to me upgrading.

Here is my system setup, I'll describe the details & issues below.

Setup:

• UFX+ > X32 Mixer > S16
  

  • X32 Clock Master

  • UFX+ Slave

  • S16 Slaves to X32

  • Sample rate 48khz

Summary:

I have a UFX+ Paired with an X32 Mixer via a DN32 MADI Klark Teknik Card.
I also have a Digital Snake (S16) paired with the X32 Mixer.
The system works in a stable manner when the X32 is clock Master, so Im using it like that & it offers great possibilities.

Questions:

• Am I missing out on any performance, sonic fidelity or otherwise by not using the UFX+ as clock master?
  

  • Why are there issues with the UFX+ as master? Is it that the MADI card is not up to the task of following the UFX+ clock?
    Anyone else experienced this or similar issues? (I saw one comment on a product review mention X32 internal clocking works best)

  • Any trouble shooting tips or should I just stick with the current setup?

  • Are there any downsides to the current setup? (e.g say I connect another device in the future & need to clock it, reduced sonic quality)

Issues:

When the X32 is the Clock Master the System works smoothly.
When the UFX+ is clock Master I have clocking issues, loud intermittent bursts of distortion.
I suspect the Madi Card or mixer doesn't like to play nice.

When the UFX+ is slave the S16 & X32 run smooth.
When the UFX+ is master the X32 screen will glitch (weird) , I'll get loud intermittent distortion & at times have issues with the S16 not connecting to the X32 or chganging settings on startup.

I suspect the system running smooth with the UFX+ as slave is one of those situations where 'the superior leader knows when to follow.' To clarify, Im guessing the the UFX+ is doing its job well when Master but the MADI card has issues accepting the clock.

When I select the X32 clocking as 'Internal' I don't toggle the UFX+ Control panel selection for clock source, that is, it remains on 'Internal'. There is an option to manually select 'Madi Optical' (how Im connected) but it simply works without doing so.

Of course having the system working in a stable manner offsets any potential gain of having the UFX+ as clock master. So I run the system with the X32 as master its ultra stable.

That being said I'm curious as to why I may be having the issue, any downsides of clocking off the X32 & any input on similar issues people may have had & what can be learnt from the experience.

The issue is the P16 would randomly drop audio. It was pretty frequent (a few times a minute) but quite varied time between drops.

The MADI indicator on the P16 would become yellow as this happened and the red lights at the rear of the device would turn off I think as well.

I changed the order of the daisy chain and it's now working fine.

The working daisy chain is connected:

UFX Out -> P16 In
P16 Out -> 1620 In
1620 Out -> UFX In

The one that caused intermittent drops on the P16 was:

UFX Out -> 1620 In
1620 Out -> P16 In
P16 Out -> UFX In

I only recently got the 1620 and previous had the P16 connected via MADI without a hitch.

Just wondering if anyone had ideas of what the issue might have been. Im wondering if it is a configuration option on the 1620 I missed or something like that. I did not change any config just the physical cables connection order. All devices are on their current firmware/drivers.

Time by time, maybe every ~20s, a "dot" is blinking between the 2 digits of the 8 gain screens. It happen when the screens are showing the gain, and when I'm in the setup menus too.

The dots are blinking almost simultaneously on the 8 screens, but not perfectly.
It seems that there is no consequence on the sound.

I can make a video to illustrate that.

Is this normal ? Or if it's not, can it be a sign of a future failure ?

I have recently had to replace the motherboard in my computer. After getting everything set up and loading all the RME drivers, I can see inputs from all three devices in TotalMix, including the 20 MADI inputs. Also, I MIDI over MADI control is working for all the devices, i.e. I can control gain, phantom power, pad, etc. from TotalMix 2.03. The web-based 12mic remote also shows everything as OK, including all the MADI routing. Mic signals into the Octamix XTC or the 12mic appear in TotalMix as expected. So far, so good.

However, my DAW (Reaper) no longer shows the MADI inputs as available (it did before). It shows the 12 UFX+ line and mic inputs, AES, and 16 ADAT inputs. Sound Forge also does not show the MADI inputs as available, listing the same inputs as Reaper.

In the MADIface Settings app (notification bar), only the UFX+ inputs are appearing under WDM devices configuration, i.e. 12 line and mic, AES, and 16 ADAT.

I have of course checked all the settings on the RME devices, and can't find any obvious problems (although I may have made an error without knowing it).

Maybe I have overlooked a setting somewhere in the menus of the RME devices. Any help that anyone could offer would be much appreciated.

I use several different DAWs. It's necessary that the 64 channels from the two FerroFish units arrive in sequential order in the DAW. At 88.2/96k, this happens automatically because the MADI channel count is 32ch per device. At 44.1/48k, I need to use a separate TotalMix workspace which uses the Loopback feature to send the second FerroFish's 32ch to DAW inputs 33-64.

Needing to use two different TotalMix Workspaces has been a major headache. We'll have a nice headphone mix built and refined tracking one song, and then that headphone mix is reset when the next song requires a different sample rate. Guest engineers are complaining quite a bit - if they forget to change the Totalmix Workspace, they won't see any of the 2nd FerroFish's inputs in their DAW, and I'll get a phone call and need to remind them of what to do, and to all of us as professional engineers seems like a hack workaround. Furthermore, using the loopback feature "prints" my TotalMix EQ/dynamics to the DAW, which is quite undesireable when using these features to refine the headphone and control room monitoring mix, yet needing to capture unaffected and clean sounds into the DAW. Again, explaining this to many experienced guest engineers goes something like this .. "the TotalMix EQ doesn't get passed to the DAW for the first 32 channels, but it does for channels 33-64". Huh?

Now I'm confronted with another hurdle. I want to expand my imputs and make use of the third MADI port on my Madiface XT2. In order to configure TotalMix to accommodate 96 sequential channels, I LOSE all of my hardware D/A outputs on the 2nd FerroFish, because those channels get "stolen" by loopback.

The solution is simple. An option within the Madiface XT2 control panel that simply leaves the entire channel count consistent regardless of sample rate. When the sample rate changes to 96k, TotalMix still shows all 64 channels for each of the 3 MADI streams - but the unavailable channels (33-64, 97-128) will effectively be dead - no audio - but the DAW will still see them, and therefore no channel remapping or Totalmix Workspace reset will be necessary.

If you think about this from my perspective, I think you'll see this is madness and for a high channel count flagship interface for one of the best companies in the world, is totally unacceptable that we need to create these odd workarounds. Please consider my thoughts on this matter. I would do anything to stay within the RME ecosystem, I love the hardware, software, company ethos.

Lastly - if anyone has any ideas for solutions I may be overlooking, I'm all ears!

I just wanted to share here in case this helps someone.  I spent days troubleshooting my RME UFX III MIDI Ports not showing up in any DAW or application at all on Windows 11.  I tried Nuendo 14, Cubase 14, Studio One 6.5, Studio One v7 and Studio Pro 8.  I also tried BOME translator and several local apps that can see all of your inputs.

To solve this for me, RME recently put out a Firmware Update in February 2026.  I was one behind.  I flashed it successfully within say 5 minutes.

Reinstalled all the latest drivers.  A dialog came up and told me to choose between my UFX III settings or all of my TotalMix FX settings.  I decided to choose TotalMix FX since I know I spent a month setting it up and saving all my backups.

After doing the above which shouldn't take more than 10 minutes with reboots all of my ports finally appeared in every Windows application and DAW.

I checked whole RME lineup but did not find a solution.
Is there any current RME device that would convert 8 channels ADAT to AES/EBU to connect 5.1 Genelec system digitally to my UFX II ?
ADI-8 QS, which would be perfect, is not available anymore, even used.
We were using ADI-4 DD for that but it's gone now and it seems very hard to find a replacement.
I would appreciate any help, thank you.
