I wish it were that simple in my case. I have a FF400 and FF800. Both also, seemingly suddenly, won't be recognized; red host light is on. I tried them with a different Mac and they work fine. So it's not simply a FireFace hardware failure.
Also, a firewire harddrive connected to the FF troubled Mac works fine.

What else could cause this?

I just just tried a different fw cable and no change.
Host light stays on and when i try to launch fireface settings software it will not launch.
If the fireface is broken how do i have it repaired?
Would rme repair or can a part be sent to me and i can do it if its user serviceable?

Host LED red - no FireWire connection. Looks more like a broken FF800.

The fireface shows a red light next to "host".
I tried different firewire inputs on the fireface.
I don't have another firewire 800 cable available to test at the moment.
I tried connecting to a different system which is also running catalina.
Normally i could launch the fireface settings app without a connected interface but both systems are behaving the same way, after clicking the fireface settings app it appears briefly in the dock and then it dissapears.
No Prompts in security and privacy for rme on either system.
System report does not show any connected firewire devices.

If it worked yesterday and doesn't today then very obviously that's a totally different issue. Does the FireWire LED on the unit show any connection? Is it found in your system report? Did you check FW cables, plug into another socket at the unit and the computer and so on? Does the FF800 still work on another computer? It might just have died...

This solution is not working for me in macos catalina 10.15.5 with latest fw driver fireface 800.
I just recorded yesterday with no issues.
Suddenly i start everything today and the rme software is not loading and i am stuck without a functioning interface.
I have tried the workaround booting into recovery mode.
The driver shows being added to the kext-consent list.
Disabling sip is not a good work around from a security perpective and has been working fine with sip on forever.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver several times.
What now?

Also encountered the problem where the total mix application failed to load.
The workaround to disable the SIP does work.

The better solution i found was adding the team_id of RME developer to kext-consent list.

/usr/sbin/spctl kext-consent list
Allowed Team Identifiers:
67AK2U2X7M

This way the SIP is not disabled, only RME driver is bypassed.

Note: you need to boot into recovery mode to add the team_id to the list

Of course I tried to install and re-re install every version of every driver on this web site, I don't know why on my computer the acceptation of the driver is not triggered AT ALL. Just the rme-audio.de website from where I downloaded the PKG.

I partially solved the problem by disabling the Systems Integrity Protection (SIP)

To do so, reboot and hold Command+R to boot macOS into Recovery Mode, login, and run "csrutil disable" in the terminal
Once done, i reboot in normal mode, install latest driver and it works

Unfortunately, if I re-enable the SIP, it wont work...

That setting has no effect on Apple's desire to improve your user experience...

When you install the driver on a new system you still have to 'allow' driver and/or TotalMix FX, and you also have to allow the use of the microphone on some systems (not with the UCX).

Maybe re-install the driver and try again. Latest driver is 3.18_3.

1. TotalMix Remote can not run on the host system.

2. The UCX is partly blocked from communication. That looks like the Privacy&Security problem as explained in the download PDF and this forum.

Hello

I searched a lot and did not found anything related to my problem,

Setup is : macbook pro 16" (catalina) with fireface UCX in USB with a usb-c hub

I installed latest drivers & TotalMix software, reboot, everything seems OK

When I lunch the RME totalmix app, the "title bar" is updated with the menu from the Totalmix software, I can access to the Preferences but I can't see the usual control window that we use to control the UCX.

Same for Firmware update, it sees the UCX but clicking the Update button does nothing (no error or anything)

To be sure, I installed latest driver + totalmix on Windows 10 => everything OK, totalmix window appears and I can control volume/EQ etc
I successfully flashed with the latest FW version on windows 10

But still not working on the Mac
