So this points to the WC output of the QS that needs repair. The error source can be found quite easily by tracking the signal from the FPGA to the output, as long as the unit is in cold 'not working' state.

Hi Daniel

Thanks for your response. I've done a couple of tests from cold start, with both WCK and ADAT looped back, clock set to internal.

Essentially, WCK does not get the WCK State green light until the unit has warmed up about 25 mins. Once this happens, the XT will also Sync to the QS over WCK if I switch the cables to it. Have tried multiple cables. WCK termination does not seem to affect it.

Any further tech advice? Will the entire main board have to be replaced? I have a friend traveling to Australia in a few days so this query is a little time sensitive as they could take it over for me.

Thanks

A few minutes after cold start:

After about 25 mins:

Not something I've come across, but then, I don't deal with repairs... Yes, IM are still the ones to talk to if you want to try. Have you tried looping WCK out to in (clock on internal)?

For some time, my previously stable system has been occasionally losing sync. ADI-8 QS is leader, Madiface XT is sync follower over WCK.

The thing is, when I start moving things around to troubleshoot, it kicks back into life and is stable again, till the next time.

Have tried different WCK cables.

Just now, XT would not even see WCK from QS (not even Lock) in it's Input Status panel. Another unit, Ferrofish Pulse would not sync to the ADI-8 QS WCK either.

Then I changed it around so XT is leader, QS is follower over WCK. That was fine.
Then changed it back to my standard: QS is leader, XT is follower over WCK. Now it's working fine too!

RME, does that ring any bells? Could a Wordclock output circuit be intermittent like that? It's been going on for a while, sometimes it's stable for a month.

Thing is, I'm in New Zealand. I don't want to pull it and send it to Innovative Music* in Australia and have them unable to fault it. Any advice?

* I assume they are still RME service agents in Aus/NZ ?

Thanks
Simon
