It's not just a number; for this product, it's a dialog window with two tabs.

The number (see screenshot above) sums up, for how many stereo pairs WDM devices are currently created.

In the "WDM Devices" tab, you select the stereo channels for which you want to create WDM devices.

In the second tab, "Speaker," you'll see a list of the devices you selected in the previous tab.
Here, you can select the device(s) your active monitors are connected to.
This ensures they appear in Windows Sound settings with a "Speaker" icon for easy identification.

Why those WDM devices?
Windows and typical Windows Application do not support ASIO.
They need windows compatible drivers, those WDM drivers.
The WDM drivers are dynamically created as needed, which means as you created them in the settings dialog.
It is recommended to only select the I/O ports for which you definitively need those WDM drivers.

Was invited into a last minute Google Meet call and joined but realized I couldn't get my microphone to be recognized, no matter what I tried. I know there are a lot of potential issues to cause this but looking at the Windows 11 mic settings, only inputs 1+2 are even available as an option to be selected by the system... that seems to be the root of the issue. My microphone is connected to input 9 on the front panel of the device. Clearly, I'm missing something fundamental and basic but how do I even get those inputs to be recognized as options by Windows?

Have been using the RME interface and Total Mix without any issues (after some initial setup) for more than a year now. This call just completely caught me off guard and I felt rather embarassed and helpless.

Any advice would be much appreciated, so I can begin to troubleshoot. Happy to provide more information as well, if that helps any. Thank you!
