hi there, i've never had problems/issues without the fan. in my studio it was getting very hot this summer, and everything was fine.
sometimes i checked if the card was getting very hot, and if so i unplugged the Sonnet for a short time. but normally i'm not longer than 8 hours in the studio, so i dont know if there would be any problems when running it day and night without a pause. but it works for me with the fan unplugged, the fan is too noisey...

unfortunately the Sonnet only has a 2pin connector, i already contacted them. they say its at my own risk...its not only about the MADI FX card, there is also the thunderbolt chip, and thunderbolt can get quite hot as far as i know, but not sure if they really need to be cooled, as a lot thunderbolt devices dont have a fan....

The MADI FX takes very little power. Therefore the Echo SE fan can be disconnected (I did that too). It is there for use with power hungry graphics cards etc.

The noise of a blower depends on several factors
- size
- depths
- design of the fan blades regarding noise and air throughput
- Rotational speed (RPM)
- supported input voltage
- some vendors like Noctue deliver a low noise adapter to reduce voltage and by this RPM and noise

Blower are so different, you would have to experiment.
If I were you I would contact sonnet and ask them which minimum spec the blower need to fullfill not that something in the case overheats or whether they have such a cable with a resistor to reduce input voltage and speed.

You also need to look whether you need a blower with 3- or 4-pin.
4-pin is for a PWM signal to control fan speed dynamically. Most likely they use 3-pin.

Hi, i wanted to know if there are some users that made bad experience with unplugging the fan inside the Echo Express SE1. its absolute to noisy for me to work. i bought another fan by noctua and replaced it, but it sounds almost the same. Please share your experiences if you have the same setup and unplugged the fan. did something went bad?
