Topic: [Solved] ADAT channel numbering on ADI-2 FS possibly wrong?
I have a huge problem: I am trying to use an ADI-2 FS to convert the ADAT signal coming from an ableton push 3 to SPDIF (for recording) and at the same time to analog (for monitoring). In principle it is working well, but in fact it is not at all:
The ADI-2 FS can only receive ADAT channels 1 and 2 (whatever that means, exactly). The push 3 is supposed to send on these channels when output channels 9/10 are selected (the idea being that internal channels 9-16 correspond to ADAT channels 1-8).
Problem is: when I select 9/10 ("ADAT 1/2") as output, I receive only on the LEFT channel and when I select 11/12 ("ADAT 3/4") as output, I receive only on the RIGHT channel. It appears that what is considered "ADAT 1/2" by RME is considered "ADAT 2/3" by ableton (but should not left come before right, usually?)
So it looks like that what ableton considers channel 1 is considered channel 8 by RME.
I could imagine that it is related to starting counting with 0 as opposed to one i binary, with ableton counting
000 001 010 011 100 101 110 111
001 002 003 004 005 006 007 008
and RME counting
001 010 011 100 101 110 111 000
001 002 003 004 005 006 007 008
while both methods of counting make some sense, I think the ableton way seems more standard,
as the channel number 1-8 are "ordinal numbers"
Anyway, I am really upset now, because I spent lots of money on a configuration that I was sure would work and does not work after all.... please please help
p.s. maybe the problem is related to S/MUX?
