Topic: Babyface + Octamic II = Mixer?

Hi,

First question. I own a Babyface and was thinking about buying a Octamic II. My plan is to use 10 press to Mic my whole band and the 10 outs I would like to use to send signal to Power Amps and also to headphones. Basically work as a Digital Mixer (with Total Mix great routing capabilities). Is that possible? If so, Octamix II will be a great addition to my Setup and allow me to record my whole band during rehearsals and at the same time, avoiding the usage of a Hardware Mixer.

Second Question: From the 8 outputs of the OCtamix, I can only use them in pairs? ex: Output 1 and 2, 3 and 4, etc? Or I can mix them separately?

The OctaMic is not a DA converter. The analog outputs are amplified analog inputs.

If you are referring to the digital outputs of the Octamic going into your computer, then of course you can record and mix them individually. All a matter of your software.

What I was actually trying to do is use the Inputs into the Octamic (ex: Mic for Vocals and Drums and Guitars in a live band) and mix them in Total Mix (using the baby face Interface) and then send the mixed signals out to PA (Power Amps) and to Returns to each musician  ... So it will act as a Hardware Mixer. Can I do that?

The Babyface has only 4 analog mono outputs. For more you need an ADAT Digital to Analog converter.

Ok understood now... So I guess I could go with the Berhinger ADA8000 (I am aware that the PRE quality is not close to RME but a cheap solution for my learning process).

Will the baby face be able to handle all 12in/10 out processing all at the same time with low latency? I believe I would have to drop to 48 or even to 44 to be able to get them all.

A better alternative (more money too, but not bad) may be the Presonus Digimax FS. It has 8 in and out  sounds much better.

Also it is SMUX capable. can do 4 channels @96k into babyface for higher quality recording.

Thanks basssalad. I was not able to find the Digimax FS new for sale, so how about the Focusrite Octopre MKII Dynamic? I believe it is a good option as well. Thanks!
