Topic: Axe-FX to babyface

Hey!

I'm just wondering if it's possible to use the babyface as primary sound driver/sound card and plug the Axe-FX from fractal audio (which has build in pre amps) and record guitars through that?

The Axe-FX also acts like a sound card appearantly but I'd only like to use it without sacrificing my babyface channels. Or would I have to take the output of the axe fx into the input of the babyface, and use one of the babyface pre-amps as well?..

Regards

Hello!

AFAIK you can connect the AXE-FX SPDIF output to your Babyface's SPDIF input, so no loss in quality...

Re: Axe-FX to babyface

Connect SPDIF out from the AxeFX to the babyface SPDIF in, then set up sample rate 48kHz, since AxeFx sample rate is only 48kHz.

Re: Axe-FX to babyface

Thanks for the answers! I appreciate it.

So I have a follow up question: How many pre-amps/channels would I be able to use? The Axe-FX has one and the babyface two. So realistically I should be able to plug a guitar in to my Axe-fx, and two mics as well thus recording 3 channels at once?

The follow up question to the follow up question is: If I use the breakout cable that has the SPDIF input, how do I plug my microphones in, as that breakout cable doesn't have any XLR inputs. EDIT3: Oh wait, the spdif input is ON the babyface not the breakout cable, correct? to the right of the USB port? (sorry never used either SPDIF or ADAT before but it seems about right!) The Axe-FX picture confuses me, the AXE-FX SPDIF port doesn't look like the babyface's SPDIF port at all.

Also, would it be possible to use the axe-fx XLR output (the digital xlr output) and just plug it in to the regular XLR input of the babyface? (might be unpractical because you lose a channel, but out of interest).

EDIT: back of an AXE-FX II  http://www.fractalaudio.com.au/wp-conte … 4_zoom.jpg

EDIT2: I read that Axe-FX records 4 channels, 2 line(dry) and 2 FX'ed- do not know if this affects the answer to my questions.

Appreciate the help!
