Topic: DUrec indicates 22 Tracks but records 19 or 20?

I am using two UFX (one as a slave/mic pre/converter). As previously posted I have used a Crucial SSD as the recording media. The front panel of the master UFX indicates 22 tracks are being recorded with approx 50% USB and no errors for over 2 hours. Per the WAV file labeling the DUrec appears to drop one or two tracks from each UFX.

Not sure which inputs are affected but I know that the 22 tracks are legit since I routinely record them, simultaneously, to Pro Tools 10 sessions. However, there are only either 19 or 20 tracks, consistently, being recorded. There's no problem going over the 2 Gig limit since the overlap tracks are relabled and recorded but whether I record long enough for overlaps or not the (reduced) track count is the same.

Do you have a fix or workaround? Thank You

When you say the "wave file labeling" are you referring to the files generated directly by the UFX, or the files that result after extraction using the multichannel wave processor?  If the former, the number of files you see have little to do with the number of tracks you are recording as the UFX uses an interleaved file format. For example, a short recording of 20 tracks may generate a single interleaved wave file.

If you are having this problem with the wave files generated after extraction, that is very odd.  I would suggest running some tests to see which tracks are being dropped to see if that helps identify the problem.

Re: DUrec indicates 22 Tracks but records 19 or 20?

I am recording at 24/96. The labeling I am referring to are the .WAV files that are laid down on the SSD media by the UFX as read by my MacBook but not-yet-imported/processed into Pro Tools since these are back up files only.

So, as I understand it I may have 22 tracks of full length session data  whilst the UFX only records 19 (or so) files. The files were laid out so well that I just assumed that the UFX .WAV files were the same files that would be-one for one-imported into my pro tools session. Maube a single .WAV file might be a stereo (dual) file or... I will run some tests to see how the files import.

Than you and sorry for my confusion. BB

I will run some tests

This is the issue. The number of tracks recorded is not the same as the number of wave files generated by the UFX.  The fact the the numbers are close is purely coincidental.  A single UFX wave file is interleaved, meaning it can contain a single mono track, 5 tracks, 20 tracks etc.  Once you import the files into Pro Tools you should see all of your tracks.  If Pro Tools does not extract the interleaved wave files natively (and I would be surprised if it did not), you can use RME's extraction tool.

Good luck,

David

The UFX records only one file for all channels. More files are generated (and numbered consecutively) each time the 2 GB wave file limit is reached.
