Topic: Fireface 400: Alien invasion?

Hi reader!

I'm running a Fireface 400 (external power, with latest drivers and firmware) on my Macbook pro 13" 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Medio 2010) with Lion 10.7.4.
Audio output goes trough 2 analog jack outputs.

When I want to play some audio (itunes, Traktor, Ableton, about any program I guess) the playback sounds very good, for the first 20 seconds.

After that, it sounds as if my fireface is posessed by aliens.:o

Every 4 seconds there's a irritating sound coming out of my speakers, sounding like this:

After a couple of minutes the audio dissapears completely, the Fireface settings + Mixer dissapears and I can't see the interface in the sound options anymore. I always have to reboot to see the Fireface coming back.
HeadScratch

I've tried this so far:

- Disconnect all other devices like midicontrollers, bluetooth device led monitors...
- Disconnect wifi
- All different sample rates.
- Bus powered vs external powered
- Reinstall latest drivers and firmware
-Laptop on battery,     and with power adaptor connected
- Install previous driver updates
- Alien exorcism

Anyone can help me out?:roll

Tried a different FW cable yet? Do you have access to a different computer to check the unit?

Re: Fireface 400: Alien invasion?

Try a different power supply. I had once a similar problem with a fireface 400. I used a power supply with too less power output and after some time i had crazy noises. I checked the power supply and it was very very hot, changed it and the problem was gone.

Re: Fireface 400: Alien invasion?

Thanks for the tips, I haven't got another mac or a firewire cable, but I'll try it out when I have the possibility.

I use the original power supply, and it doesn't get hot at all, so I don't think it's the cause of my problem
