Topic: audible "pop" when computer/UCX powers on?

OK, just got the uCX and got everything installed fine. It is connected via firewire (which provides power?) but is also pluged in, with the on/off switch in the off position. When I power the computer on, the unit emits an audible "pop" which doesn't seem like a good thing...My old M-Aido Delta 1010 didn't emit such a noise.

1) Should I remove power adapter since computer/firewire is providing power?

2) Should I just put the on/off switch to the "on" position so even when computer is powered down, the UCX stay on (all the time)?

Please advise if what I am experiencing is normal and what the best option is moving forward.

Happens with my Babyface on USB. Happens with my old Novation Xio as well. I would consider it normal.

Lots of gear pops at switch-on.  It's why we have the rule - power amplifier gets turned on LAST.

... and off first (applies to active speakers as well).

OK, thanks guys I have Event monitors plugged into my mackie board, so sounds like I should power those on last. However, should I put the RME on/off switch to "on" position, even though fire-wire is providing power? I assume this would mean the RME is on all the time?

Also, what is the consensus about leaving computer and/or audio interface on all the time?

There's no concensus :-)  Some do, some don't.  All sorts of arguments for one or the other are put forward.

I'd just mention one thing.  If I leave computer equipment on overnight, maybe for a big video render or a backup, when I go back in the morning I often don't have to turn the heating on!  I'm paying for that heat on my electricity bill.
