...
Users of Vista can either rethink their choice of operating system - or wait for the signed complete driver package... :-)
Oh man! That's brutal! I love it.
Ira
As a Vista (bite me) user I'm having fun with the new graphics. It was a simple matter to tweak the meter colors to lime green, the peak holds to red and the overs to yellow. Thanks to all for the collaborative graphics upgrade.
I'm reminded of a quote of Bob Fulton's (anyone remember the Fulton Js and Fulton Gold cables) "Anything will sound better if you paint it blue."
Can the readout text above the meter be a different color than the moving meter? Admittedly a very small concern but I was wondering.
Thanks again for the upgrade.

You either missed the option 'Level Meter Text Color', or need to download driver 3.057 again. It includes a newer hdspmix.exe (silent update). In the first version only one of both texts changed their color.
I think the Total Mix is a very poweful tool but I don't like the design, a bit old.
I tried to make a GUI that I prefer :
- a blue : http://photos13.free.fr/Total_mix_bluep.jpg
Thanks for your opinions.
I liked this one better than the Sander one.. clearer and brighter.
Any plans for uploading your files Manolo?
Cheers,
Ola

Thanks, I sent them to Matthias 2 or 3 weeks ago. I don't how if he'll put them online. I sent them to 2 users that ask me for but I prefer that there are on a server so everybody can download them.
Hey! Enough already about designer colour schemes. Now how about considering the whole human interface thing?
The faders and the matrix and most of the other stuff is great functionality. Maybe now it is time to move on to the next generation.
I am already impressed in the coding prowess that allows TotalMix (drivers and firmware) to be accommodated in two 300kB downloads. Now we really need to ask what do we look for in the next generation of this supporting software?
For me it is about combining recording, mixing and monitoring and expanding the responsiveness of this already flexible system - for broadcast, PA, foldback and communications in this one neat elegant package. I would like to see tighter integration between the hardware and these functions. The use of one of the increasing choice of control surfaces is interesting; likewise more production-like facilities in the TotalMix package without losing the ability to work quickly and elegantly in simple situations.
I know comparisons are odious, but I find the concept of the interface and functionality of some of the TC interface support software interesting. (Though I think it lacks some of the depth shown in the TotalMix design.)
I am impressed also by what the developers of REAPER (Justin Frankel and friends) have been able to implement in a 3MB download (including choice of skins). MC might regard this as sacrilege, but it is interesting to imagine what a much tighter integration between interface and DAW software might achieve. Digidesign has sought to bring under the one umbrella hardware and software. Maybe there is an opportunity here to bring together the hardware and software (control surfaces, direct support for the interface) from someone like RME and REAPER to get some synergy from two groups of people who have the same paradigms - excellence and elegance.
My two bits, for what it's worth ....
Hey Matthias,
In addition to the request I made for improved grouping functionality, I would like to see TotalMix receive an easier way to switch skins within Totalmix.
Also, when will the TotalMix skins area be added to the RME website?
(I'm eager to get my hands on Manolo's skin! )
All the best,
Dax.
You both guys hijack this thread. No good!
Sorry! Maybe I should have posted it here:
http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=245
Sorry MC, I thought 2/3 of my points related to TotalMix GUI.
Please forgive us Aussies!
So how do i get the new look? mine looks the same after adding the latest drivers?
best regards! Emil
Hi Emil,
What soundcard and what driver version?
I believe only latest HDSP drivers have skinable TotalMix included.
Under Options, check if you have "Level Meter Text Color". I -think- if you see this, you have the skinable variety.
See the 2nd page of this post for the instructions on how to change skins.
All the best!
Dax.
to sum it up quickly:
first: get latest drivers!
then download:
https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/tm_bmps.zip
- this contains all the original bitmaps and a readme.txt with explanations (where to put the bitmaps).
then download:
https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/bm … r_blue.zip
- this contains the bitmaps of sander's skin.
FireFace driver set 2.86 now contains skinnable TotalMix.
Now all we need is Manolo's skin!
OK, I just tried this and it works. OSX HDSP users can download the Fireface mixer rsrc file here:
https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/fi … ix_osx.zip
Then simply rename the Fireface Mixer.rsrc file to Hammerfall DSP Mixer.rsrc - go to Applications, control-click on Hammerfall DSP Mixer and select "Show package contents". Go into "Contents" then "Resources" and replace the file.
I received Manolo's bitmaps, but am on the road at this time so can not upload it. Sorry. Will be done in the next days.
hello
how to shitch totalmix skin ?
thanks
i have 2.86 but can t find out how to change my skin
cheers
hollybaba, please spend just two minutes on reading this very thread. (e.g. post #114)
thank you.

ah ?

I read this thread, but like Hollybaba, I don't understand how we can change a skin in Totalmix (FF400 here), no new menu, no folder to put bmp into, ...
Sorry.
cheers
Phil
from Info.txt included in
https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/tm_bmps.zip
"Windows
TotalMix 3.057 and up use their internal bitmaps until a folder bmp is found in the same location where the presets are stored, and this folder includes one or more correctly named bmps. Then the ones in the folder will be used.
Path: Documents and Settings, <Username>, Local Settings, Application Data, RME TotalMix."
regards S-EH
yeah, as I wrote in post #114: "this contains all the original bitmaps and a readme.txt with explanations (where to put the bitmaps)."
Interestingly it seems that Safari does not display the post numbers. No excuse for not reading this thread, though.
The one I sent to Matthias had some errors I forgot to fix, fixed now.
hi,
yes I read all I can, I think I understand what is wrote.
Even after reboot the computer, nothing happens. Sorry.
Are you sure we can do that with a Fireface ?
How can I know that I have Totalmix 3.057 ?
...so, what it the next step in this treasure hunt ?
cheers
Phil

It works with the Fireface, I use my skin with the last 2.86 drivers. laex and Gr8h8m gave all explanations.
- install 2.86 drivers
- put the "bmp" (it has to be named "bmp") folder where the bitmaps for the skin you want are in : Documents and Settings/<Username>/Local Settings/Application Data/RME TotalMix
- exit Totalmix and relaunch it by clicking on firefacemix.exe in WINDOWS/system32
yes, perfect.
but, it doesn't work here. Why ? don't know.
cheers
Phil
I use a Fireface 800 under XP SP2. Both FF800 and 400 using the same drivers, what OS do you use ?
same here, xp sp2.
just to be sure : you put the folder called bmp in the Totalmix folder, we don't need to put the bmps directly in Totalmix folder, that's right ?
Phil
you need to rename the "bmp..." folder to just "bmp"!
yes, it is only bmp already. Thanx anyway.
... or perhaps I don't see the difference between the skins ... fryingpan
:-)
Phil

Phil
Yes, you put the folder called "bmp" (or rename it if it has an other name) in the "RME TotalMix" folder.
no way...
Phil
Try this make an copy of TotalMix on Desktop or shortcut
copy "bmp" folders to the TotalMix folder
use just one "bmp" folder at once rename if necessary
Documents and Settings/<Username>/Local Settings/Application Data/RME TotalMix
unload TotalMix from Taskbar with right click on icon and Exit
now loadback TotalMix from shortcut
open TotalMix, now there should be a new bmp skinn of TotalMix
regards S-EH
no way...
Phil
My guess would be:
1)you have more than one user profiles on your computer and you are not updating the good one.
or/and
2)you have an older version of TotalMix
rw
S-EH : I will give it a try, thanx.
Rwil : I've already try all the possibilities ...
I put Totalmix folder with bmp in every Application Data folder I've found in my notebook !!
I have the last version / last firmware. (2.86 / 1.66).
Thanx anyway.
cheers

...and the pictures included into the bmp folder are the tweaked ones, not the original from RME?
rw
I hope Manolo hasn't done a mistake, because it's direct from zip to Totalmix folder ..
Phil
Nope, the link I gave above have the good pictures.
I can confirm Manolo's skin works.
The user is doing something wrong.
I prefer Manolo's graphics. Both sets are superior to the original. Thanks to all!
(Bye the bye, the BMP files won't work if they are still zipped.)
i just DL new pack (w2fire_286) and bmp_ultimate_skin.rar.
Now i try to go to direction to Documents and Settings/<Username>/Local Settings/Application Data/RME TotalMix ...
But!.. Gues what there are only two files with .fmx extention.
No bmp nothing.. only those 2 files.
So ?:)
If its easy post a step by step guide in case i/we miss something.
Thank you.

So, just drag and drop the "bmp" folder in the "RME TotalMix" folder. Quit and restart firefacemix.exe.
I think I'm gonna reduce a bit the size of the Mute Solo buttons on channel strips so they'll have the same size that the buttons of the right panel.
Updated.
It is done! Thanks anyone who involved to this.
Manolo,
That last revision of your "Blue" skin looks bad @$$. You have become an expert at this.
Don't care of this post fryingpan.
