Topic: Fiber Cable Handling

Related and unrelated...

I do a couple location recordings a year that require long runs between stage and control room.  In the 200-300 foot range.

It's not worth it for me to invest in armored fiber cable and the spools and required adapters.  Plus it's far cheaper to bring one or two spare conventional cable than using armored cable.

It's hard to find small cable spools for regular orange fiber cable.  A 300' cable barely fills a regular extension cord spool, plus then you have the issue of getting access to the end of the cable without unspooling the remaining cable.

Does anyone have a handy solution for dealing with long cables on location?

Re: Fiber Cable Handling

I use the Schill IT266.RM. You can thread the "beginning" of the cable through the hole on the side and have a few windings on the outside of the spool.

Re: Fiber Cable Handling

Looks like a good product.  I'm looking for a smaller reel though.  100M of fiber cable is quite small.  Always trying to make my location recording kit as portable as possible.
