Topic: ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition - Bit test Howto

Dear all,

kindly ask for insight and help. I just guess I need some advice how to use the bit-test wavs correctly please.

I am running the ADI-2 Pro via a very cheap USB-cable and thought its a good idea to check "quality" overall.

While I do believe all is just perfect, I tried to play RME provided bit-test wav's.

But however I am playing those files, there is no message beeing displayed in the ADI-2 PRO.

If I understand correctly, then just "playing" the 4 second wav-file should trigger the ADI-2 Pro to detect the bit-test pattern and display hopefully a message "Bit Test Passed".

Trying to describe mine System:

WIN 10 Pro, ADI-2 attached via USB2

ADI-2 settings
----------------
- I did an FW-upgrade with the february driver http://rme-audio.de/downloads/fut_madiface_mac.zip
- ADI-2 runs in "basic Mode USB"
- Clock-Source is set to AUto
- Samle-Rate is greyed-out, but shows 44100
- SPDIF SRC is set to OFF
- sw-version shows 97

WIN10 settings
-------------------
- USB-driver: I am using the latest driver from RME 0.9.704.0
- In System-Setting for ADI I have clicked the "Disable all enhancements"
- Windows-Settings tell me: 2 channel, 24bit, 44100Hz
- Using Foobar it tells me ASIO: ASIO MADIface USB driver

Kindly ask for further insight and how to use the bit-test

p.s. If I  start the tool "DigiCheck" and use Function "Bit Statistics and Noise", then all bite show "green" with RMS LB of -96 and DC=-146.

thanks

christian

Please check the volune control within foobar and set it to 0 dB.

+1

Additionally you can check for transport errors through USB, to i.e. validate that your USB cable is fine, by watching the USB Diagnosis. For this you need to keep the driver settings window open while you play music.

Dear Bejoro,

thanks for catching this. Setting Volume to Max in Foobar was the trick.

Bit Test "passed" now with Foobar.

With Windows Media Player the ADI-2 does not detect that the Bit-Test file is played, hence there is neither a pass or fail message displayed.  Any idea what needs done with the media-player please?

@Ramses

thanks. Can you please send a screenshot to describe which window I need to leave open? Is the one I am using here correct?:

Hi Christian,

sorry your screenshot is not visible to me, even if copy/pasting the URL to my browser.

At the end you only need to check your manual and search for "USB Diagnosis".
Every PDF viewer has a search function which is very useful to find stuff in the manual.
In the manual there is i.e. a screenshot provided.

See Windows Notification area on the bottom, right side.
I hope you didn't hide the symbol for the RME MADIface driver ..
In the driver setting window you can also set an ASIO buffersize, etc.

You should browse through your manual to see, what information is included and what capabilities your device has.

Re: ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition - Bit test Howto

Behn66,

I've nothing of more significance to add to what Ramses, and Bejoro have already stated.  That said, the RME BitTest feature is SUCH a Wonderful Tool to ensure the Data Integrity in your System.  Data manipulations of any sort are simply NOT tolerated.  It (Bit Test) is an unforgiving Lie Detector.   When Bit Test Passes...Your Data is confirmed unaltered.  A "blank screen"??  Something is performing mischief.  smile

Depending on your useage, I have verified that .FLAC encoding of the BitTest.wav files does indeed "Pass"    One Less matter to worry about, and you save considerable Storage Space with respect to your Music File Collection.  Win Win.
(There are still those CONVINCED that .WAV is "better"   The data says otherwise. )

Best to You

Dear Curt, dear Ramses,

the hint with USB Diagnosis in the manual was just perfect. Found the section in the manual and found the settings-dialog under win10 as well.

Issue solved. All working fine without any issues.

many thanks
