Topic: Digiface Dante crashing Mac OSX 10.15.3 on disconnection

Hi there - wonder if anyone can confirm or help........

Digiface Dante - Firmware 36, Driver 3.18 - both downloaded today 24th March 2020

Mac OSX 10.15.3 - MacBook Pro 15" (2016)

All works fine except when disconnecting the device - OSX crashes.

Have tried quitting Totalmix and/or Fireface USB settings - makes no difference.

Is there anyone who can replicate this or provide a method of disconnecting without crashing?

Many thanks

Adam

How do you disconnect? If using an adapter plug out the adapter instead of the USB 3 cable.

Re: Digiface Dante crashing Mac OSX 10.15.3 on disconnection

Hi MC - thanks for your reply.
The unit is connected with a single USB 3 cable - no adapters.
Crash happens whichever end I pull out.

Many thanks

Adam

Crash report if it helps?

Re: Digiface Dante crashing Mac OSX 10.15.3 on disconnection

Update:

10.15.4 released today - same problem - MacBook Pro

Works fine on a different computer- MacBook Air with 10.15.3 installed.
Works fine on a different computer- MacBook Air with 10.15.4 installed.

On the MacBook Pro with the problem I have:
2 .kext files in Library/Extensions

RMEUSBNetworkDriver.kext
RMEFirefaceUSB.kext

If I remove the "RMEUSBNetworkDriver.kext" from the extensions folder and restart the problem goes away and I think everything is still working correctly and the computer does not crash on disconnection !!?

Do I need both kext files in order for everything to work?
I think both are installed at the same time - if so what is the "RMEUSBNetworkDriver.kext" file doing, and do I need it?

Any clues gratefully received

Many thanks

Adam

Re: Digiface Dante crashing Mac OSX 10.15.3 on disconnection

From the manual:

The Digiface Dante is basically a USB audio interface. The Dante Controller software needs a network port to communicate with the Dante network. The standard solution would have been to plug a network cable from the computer's network port into one of the four ports of the Digiface Dante - which makes you loose two network ports!

Therefore the Digiface Dante also includes the functionality of a USB Ethernet adapter, whose driver is installed together with the MADIface series one. This device can be used directly for the Dante Controller. No cable needed, two network ports stay free.

This driver can be deactivated and the DF Dante will still work with the mentioned restriction.

I also see no crashes here, but we will check more.

Re: Digiface Dante crashing Mac OSX 10.15.3 on disconnection

Hi MC - thanks for your reply.

That is good news for me - I shall use it without the usb/Ethernet driver functionality.

Thanks for checking - there must be some other conflict on my computer causing the problem.

If it helps I tried it on a new User on my laptop, but the problem remained.

Thanks again

Adam
