Topic: UFX+ not available as device on Windows Desktop PC

i've connected the ufx+ with my desktop pc over USB but it doesn't show up in devices in the windows sound options (input/output). i've connected a Shure SM7B to Mic/Line 10 and i get a weak signal. only with setting the line to "instrument" in totalmix fx and boost the gain to +50 dB i get the input to -30 dB (still too low in my opinion). anyway. mumble doesn't recognize my microphone. in reaper i can add the ufx+ as input device.

any idea why it's not available in windows and mumble?
any idea why the mic input is so low, even with gain set to 50 dB?

Re: UFX+ not available as device on Windows Desktop PC

What firmware / driver version ?
Which Windows version ?
Perform firmware and driver upgrade, if needed.

If you keep the driver setting window open, do you see USB transport errors ?
Which USB cable are you using ? Which length ?

Which PC ? Mainboard / Chipset ?
Which USB port did you try ? From chipset or 3rd party USB communication chip on board ?
Could you please try all USB3 and USB2 Ports ?

In regards to the Mic .. if you connect a Mic to Analog 9-12 IN .. don't set the input to INSTR.
An INSTR input is there to connect electric guitars or basses with pickups ...
From the manual you can see that INST sets the impedance from 3.4kOhm for Mics to 1MOhm for pickups.
Also the gain range changes from 75dB down to 42dB.
When set to INSTR 50 is the max settings, this shows clearly that you are using INSTR, which is wrong.
So untick INST and then the input is for mic ... and you see that you can raise the gain now up to 75dB.

Another thing .. reset the TM FX mixer to be sure, that you start with basic routing.

Done.

the one that came with it. 1,5 meter or so. it works (i can choose the UFX in Reaper)

Which PC ? Mainboard / Chipset ?
Mainboard: Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero
CPU: i9-9900K

Which USB port did you try ? From chipset or 3rd party USB communication chip on board ?
Mainbard USB inputs on the back.

Could you please try all USB3 and USB2 Ports ?
I did. It works in Reaper, but not for Mumble or Windows itself.

If I unpick the "INSTRUMENT" button then I get no visible input in TotalMix FX anymore.

I made a total reset. Doesn't help

You are aware of, that Reaper supports ASIO and thus can work with the RME ASIO driver ?
But Windows and other normal applications are not capable of using an ASIO driver.

There you need to create WDM devices in the RME driver settings dialog for those analog ports, which you want to use for input and output under Windows and its non-ASIO aware applications.

In the WDM settings is another tab for speaker ... there you need to select the port where your active monitors are connected to. Once you do that you see in the windows audio settings a RME device which you can set as default audio device for windows and its non-ASIO aware applications.

Once you did that you can hear audio for Windows apps.

All this is also documented in the manual and in my step by step guide.
