Topic: UFX II crashing iMac Pro USB system - use a dock?

I've had an iMac Pro for about a month. For some reason when using my UFX II with the iMac it crashes the USB system. All USB devices cease to function, and the computer requires a restart to fix it. My Babyface Pro works just fine, and it's been filling in for the past couple weeks.

The UFX II works fine with other computers. I also tried swapping USB cables. Nothing is loose, or becoming unplugged.

Would sending the UFX through a USB-C or TB3 dock fix the issue?

Any thoughts?

This iMac Pro works perfectly with all devices aside for the ufx ii - time to send the interface in for service?

Did you try the UFX II on a different machine?

Did you update all firmwares and drivers for UFX II and Mac? Macs with T2 chips (like your iMac Pro) had big problems with USB audio on some earlier releases of Mojave / Total Mix, but should be fixed by now.

The workaround back then was using TB3 docks, as those then operate on its own USB controller (so if you try a dock make sure it is TB3).

Thanks for the message. Yes, it works fine with my MacBook Pro.
Both Mojave OS and RME drivers are up to date.

It is finally working without the ARC remote attached.
To be clear, does ONLY TB3 have a dedicated USB controller? I also have a TB2 dock + TB3 adapter.

Is that the ARC USB? You could try the newer firmware that uses different MIDI communication.

this is happening to me too. mine powers on fine but if i switch it off, everything else connected via USB crashes and i need to restart the computer manually. i was told today to try using a dock, which i haven’t had a chance to try but i will. still, i find this super weird.

This thread is about a different topic. The OP did not mention 'power off' or 'unplugging', and also commented on removing the ARC USB as fix.

Thanks everyone for the replies. My system has been working fine as follows:
-UFX II + ARC remote firmware v7 (via USB direct to UFX II)
-UFX II -> TB2 Dock -> TB2/TB3 Adapter - iMac Pro
