Topic: Volume control for digital/AES and analog outputs

Hello all,

I would like to use an ADI-2-Pro FS R as preamplifier, using the analog and digital outputs of the system in parallel. Is this possible?
In the setup, the main speakers should be driven by an analog power amp, and the subwoofers by a digital power amp that provides a digital AES & S/PDIF connection.
If relevant, this digital amp: https://www.hypex.nl/product/fusionamp-fa502/159
Does the volume control that can be used for the analog output optionally affect the level of the digital output as well? Is such a configuration supported?

Many thanks!

Regards
Martin

Re: Volume control for digital/AES and analog outputs

Volume control works on both.

But- an unfortunate combination:
The digital passway will have a different, longer latency (time delay) than ADI-2 Pro's analog out.
The bass will lag 1.8ms behind in the timing, according to amp specs.
Like it stands back 60cm.
This will make it hard to setup a good x-over.

The other way round (main speakers digital) would be much better, as the sub's lowpass filter causes a phase shift into the same direction.

ADI-2 Pro's analog output has a latency too, depending on the DA-filter choosen AND the samplerate.
Here you see the other problem:
ADI-2 Pro's filter latency isn't constant, but varies with the sample rate.

This means phase relationship, and therefore crossover frequency response between main and sub varies with samplerate.

I don't want to discourage you, give it a try.
I just want to show you what to watch for.

Look here how to setup a subwoofer, i've just written this:
