Topic: Mic Input Noise (RME Fireface UCX) + IMAGES

Hi everyone!

On those images below you can see the frequency spectrum of noise on two mic inputs of my Fireface UCX (the gain settings are cranked to max).
The problem is that the 1 input has a wild noise while the second is quiet.

Is it a preamp chip issue that needs to be repaired?
Would be very grateful for your help/advice.

hi,

did you get any answer for your question?
unfortunately I seem to have the seem issue, the difference is that both of my channels are as noisy as your input 1.

Re: Mic Input Noise (RME Fireface UCX) + IMAGES

Is a Mic connected to the Mic ports where you see this noise ?
If not: how high is the Gain Setting in TM FX ?

Search the forum, according to RME this is the usual behaviour on an "open" port with nothing connected to it.
And the higher the gain, the higher the noise.

Re: Mic Input Noise (RME Fireface UCX) + IMAGES

The input 1 is named SM57 and the input 2 is named Rode.
Assuming those mics are connected the two images shows that the SM57 is a noise-maker.
Is it possible that the Rode mic is a condenser mic and the phantompower is off ?

Re: Mic Input Noise (RME Fireface UCX) + IMAGES

An SM 57 will obviously be much noisier than a condenser mic. Some Rode LDC microphones have very low noise levels...

It also depends on how noisy your environment is.

What happens if you switch the mics around?

Hi,

thank you for your comments/helpful suggestions.
unfortunately the noise is there even with no mic plugged in, without the phantom on.
It really seems like a hardware input problem on both mic in channels, but one is louder than the other. I hear it on the headphones already with volume level at 33.
I recently bought it on ebay second hand, now I think I know why it was sold.

Re: Mic Input Noise (RME Fireface UCX) + IMAGES

I meant gain level at 33

It seems it was not only me having the same issue: https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … mp;login=1
