Topic: No Hi-Res on Windows !

I just bought my ADI-2 DAC, on windows, I installed the very latest windows driver from RME site.
In windows setting, I cannot set rate more than 44100 Hz :

On my old DAC I can see up to 384000 Hz.

How can I set my RME dac to more than 44100 Hz ? (I am mainly using amazon music HD)

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

The application sets the sample rate. You do not need to touch these values there.
For checking the sample rate being currently in place or to set it for whatever reason, check on device or look RME driver settings window (little icon at the bottom right of your screen in the Windows notification are).

If your application supports ASIO then choose better the ASIO driver to bypass Windows sound.
The settings you see there are those of the WDM driver which is there for the OS and Applications that do not support ASIO.

Additional question to you: If you have audio content with 44.1 kHz ... what's the point of playing it with a different or higher sample rate than 44.1 kHz ? Not sure whether windows would support upsampling and even if, upsampling content doesn't raise the quality of audio material.

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

My player is Amazon music HD, and it does not change sample rate on hi-res music.
For the RME driver settings window : see my screenshot in my initial post : no more than 44100Hz

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

From what I see here in this picture from an article on the web Amazon HD has no higher sample rate.
You need to get Ultra HD for that.

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

Here is the way the player amazon music is work :

It says the content is 192 Khz
It looks the DAC Capabilities, and says RME DAC is able to play only at 44.1Khz
finally it says "playing at 44.1Khz"

With My old ifi DAC, I can set in windows setting 192Khz and amazon music HS is playing... at 192Khz

Note, I do not have such a problem on Linux : it works at 192Khz without any problem.

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

I have  the ULTRA HD from Amazon (now call only HD in France)
Here a snapshot of the interface showing the song sampling rate (here 96 Khz) and only playing  44.1 KHz:

Is this an app or in a browser. If browser try another browser, some have limitations.

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

I tried also with foobar2000 : same problem : still playing at 44kHz.1 a 192kHz flac file !

Could check you have the same parameter window for the DAC :

https://ibb.co/5LZ6DYW

That is only 4 choices at 44.1 Khz

Why RME DAC is called "Analog (1 + 2)" is that normal ?

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

I upgraded the firmware to the latest (v35) : still the same problem.
Tried on another computer : same problem
Tried another USB cable, another USB port : same problem

I am missing something somewhere : I have many DACs, On windows, all of them can have their sampling rate set for the OS at the highest level. RME DAC can be set only at 44.1 Khz :

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

Did you install the driver for the ADI? If yes, you can set the sample rate in the settings dialog.
If you want software to set the sample rate, use ASIO. There is an ASIO plugin for Foobar, for example.

Re: No Hi-Res on Windows !

Finally it worked, it was very strange :

despite I re-install ADI driver, the ADI dedicated settings icon (MADiface series settings) was not there.
Then I installed ASIO foobar plugin : the ADI settings icon then magically appeared : I do not see any relation
but now I can set the sample rate and Amazon music HD player can fully play 192 KHz songs !

Thank you for your help.

Amazon Music HD on Windows connected to your DAC with USB is not bit perfect. The signal is being resampled.

The only way to get Amazon Music HD bit perfect is using a Bluesound (and possibly DTS Play-Fi or HEOS) device, such as a Node 2i, connected to your DAC with digital coax or optical.
