Topic: Input AND output?

Looking at an RME ADI-2 Pro.
I am assuming that I can simultaneously ingest A/D with the inputs and send them through some s/w and also output a different set of bits on the DAC outputs side.

Is this correct?
And what s/w would one use to ingest (say to a file), and output from a file?

Yes.

Depends on what you want to do.

There are music producing DAWs like Audacity, Steinberg Wavelab and Cubase, Protools, ... I do use Magix Sequoia.
These are universal tools, used in recording studios.

Then there are specific programs for Vinyl or general audio transfer and restauration ...

Re: Input AND output?

Morning KaiS. Sorry, but I am wondering why you mention Audacity. The binary distributions of this software have no ASIO support because of license issues. You would need to compile it on your own, but this is PITA.

When buying such an advanced product like the converter I would only recommend recording applications with ASIO support, because then it is easier to be on the safe side, not to use a Windows audio driver by accident, that degrades sound quality.
ASIO fully bypasses the windows audio system. I think this is the way to go, nothing else (my personal opinion).

Because it’s free, and it’s quite common in budget studios for a reason.
With a little personal effort one can circumvent the limitation at no cost:

Practically, compiled version can be found too, and Steinberg doesn’t complain about that.

Audacity with ASIO:
Here’s a link to an Italian Professor that supplies it.
According to his statement latest changes in the licensing does allow this:

So what’s your recommendations?
Specially in the regard of more private use stuff, that I’m not familiar with!

Re: Input AND output?

Hi Kai,

ok thanks for the information that compiled versions with ASIO support exist. When I had interest into this tool, many many years ago, I found none.

My recommendation is to invest either into a DAW with ASIO support (e.g. reaper or affordable entry versions of Cubase or other solid products) or if it should really only be something "easier" like a recorder / audio editor - to use google and search for: free audio editor ASIO. I found this free tool with ASIO support: https://www.wavosaur.com/, but I never used it, I would simply try.

There are also other tools available like vinylstudio/pro. If you buy a converter for €1700 then it should be tolerable to spend a few bucks for entry versions of DAW or such software, the basis version of vinylstudio is not too expensive.

I have no special recommendations, as am only using Cubase and Wavelab. Was only wondering why Audacity.

Re: Input AND output?

Ok many thanks Kai, just in case I can make good use of it .. stored wink

One note: when trying to execute audacity from the ZIP "Audacity_320_ASIO.zip" (http://www.angelofarina.it/Public/Auror … .2.0+ASIO/), then I am getting this message: "Diese App kann auf Ihrem PC nicht ausgeführt werden. Wenden Sie sich an den Software Hersteller ...". Setting Win7 or Win8 compatibility for execution doesn't solve the issue, also with Admin rights not executeable. No special anti virus solution here, the normal Windows Antivirus solution.

In contrast to that Version 2.4.1 with aurora is executeable and RME MADIface driver loads fine (http://www.angelofarina.it/Public/Auror … dows+ASIO/).
