Topic: UFX ii I bought and noise floor seats around -95dBFS, normal?

So I have got myself UFX ii and sold my beloved UFX mk1.
Everything works like charm and just wondering,

My analog INPUTS noise level without connecting anything at 'Lo Gain' seats around -95dBFS.


Is it good healthy signal?

So firmware/driver all updated to the latest, and I am just double checking! smile

It meant to seat around this number...?

My UFX analog inputs' noise floor seat about around similar value!

*Just I am super careful so I do not add unwanted noise floor or whether it needs to be checked smile

Probably peak value, switch to rms in the blue window, that shouls read in the expected -110 to-120db. Dont exactly know for the UFX2 but is in the datasheet. My babyface pro fs reads -117 rms and -95 peak.
My ADI8AE which is old, very old, reads -108rms (with a line level connection) and also -95 peak.
So peak seems somewhat unrelated to rms

Hey thanks! Um.. I am no expert at this but um, my UFX ii so, does not seem to be having any flaws right...?

All I want is RME UFX ii's best sonic noise free quality and set-forget it, u know! haha

Oh.. just realised.. changing to 96k makes noisier but won't complain because more resolution I guess..?
I was on 96k with those values but I see I see, what you have stated seem to be the same as mine, when I switch to 44 or 48k sample rate! smile

Just state the peak and rms figures at 44k.
96 and 192k are noisier because the quantisation noise which is inherent to sampling(AD) is moved out of the audible range by the modern oversampling converters.

Do you know any way I can check whether my model has akm or ess chip..?
not that it matters but.. I just want to know hehe

Also what shall I check...?
Noise floor has been checked and perhaps 4 front inputs... phantom power and DI...?

Would you know any common issues with UFX ii?

Sorry no idea(s), I do know about the noise floors but no rme hardware expert at all.

I think you stumbled over this, if I understood correctly.

You have to connect something to the analog inputs. Otherwise, they are in an undefined state, which is why you see a higher noise floor. In other words, the “measurement setup” is not valid to make statements about SNR.

MC had posted this some time ago when someone made measurements with DIGIcheck and was also surprised to discover a higher noise floor on the analog inputs than expected (because nothing was connected to them).

Can you please compare that with an input that has something connected to it?

Because noise, by its nature is eratic and peak values don't mean anything with it. RMS is the way you hear noise and what is published by rme so you can see if working as advertised.
