Topic: Ventura and FireFace 400 using Firewire?

I just upgraded to Ventura from Catalina.

Is the firewire interface going to be supported for the FF400??

If not is the USB interface usable?  I've never actually used USB?

Or is there some kind of USB -> Firewire converter that I could use?

Or should I just migrate to Monterey instead and hope things work out?

Considering Apple kind of .. Invented .. Firewire .. I'm perplexed that it didn't just work after the upgrade?

And would This product work?   Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD46 … re-adapter

Thanks!

Your Mac has a working Thunderbolt connector ?
Then the adapter might be a try.
May you buy one and send back if it fails ?

Apple has shut down any support for Firewire long ago.
Before migrating to a Monterey computer I would try to buy another interface (RME USB interface of course)

M1-Sequoia, Madiface Pro, Digiface USB, Babyface silver and blue

Re: Ventura and FireFace 400 using Firewire?

It's a $1000+ card that works Perfectly .. and I should Toss it because of a Whim of Apple???

Apple doesn't care at all about their users.

I had a dual Xeon processor Mac Pro with a Massive amount of RAM to do high end video production and they just Killed Final Cut 'Pro' that all the studios used and instead released a dumbed down consumer Final Cut X.

Everyone .. LEFT .. and I switched to Premiere on Windows.

Apple of course Bought eMagic (the guys who developed Logic Pro) and .. Discontinued the Windows version.

Logic Pro is actually Very good but .. Apple doesn't Care about them or they wouldn't Remove a perfectly functioning protocol stack like Firewire that runs Fine on the Previous MacOS.

That's why I build my Own Hackintoshes!!  And have Firewire cards and the latest AMD graphic cards (as many as I want) inside with Superfast NVMe etc.

I'd rather spend the money with Apple but .. they do Not provide what I .. Want and Need.

Re: Ventura and FireFace 400 using Firewire?

Apple has warned FW support will be ending. They haven't specified when exactly, probably because they don't know yet.

Meanwhile, FW is still supported under Ventura.

No, Firewire CoreAudio support does Not work in Ventura as I just had to re-format and install Monterey to get it to work!!

It does work as several users in this forum already confirmed. A simple search for 'FireWire' would have made you find these threads:

Those users report Mixed results .. sometimes working .. sometimes Not?

And All of the 'solutions' involve adding More Gadgets in between the FireFace and the Mac.

More things to go Wrong .. which is not what makes music Fun!

One 'solution' was a separate chassis running a PCIe card - and wow .. that's just incredible to be forced into something like that because Apple .. Removed .. a perfectly working Firewire CoreAudio stack?   Complexity = Problems!!

But .. thanks for pointing out those threads and I'll keep monitoring them to see how it all works out.

Re: Ventura and FireFace 400 using Firewire?

I have just today upgraded from Monterey to Ventura 13.0.1 on an iMac M1 with a Fireface 800 connected via two adaptors from Thunderbolt to Firewire and everything works fine. The same as before with Monterey and Big Sur. No Problems. Most recent driver is still 3.41, installed in the beginning with Big Sur: https://www.rme-audio.de/rme-treiber-macos.html

Which specific adapters did you use?

Of course, sadly, I Don't have thunderbolt on my Hackintosh motherboard (just a slot for a Thunderbold add-in card)

But .. I may be able to find a way to deal with that by adding a PCIe thunderbolt card in place of my PCIe FireWire card?

That's the Advantage of a Hackintosh!  They are .. Expandable!!

One from Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 like this: https://www.cyberport.de/apple-und-zube … apter.html

and one from Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire like this (edit: link fixed): https://www.cyberport.de/apple-und-zube … apter.html

AFAIK there are no PCIe Thunderbolt cards that work unless the BIOS supports it. And then still, some BIOSes seem to support it, but don't have a complete implementation, or don't work at all.

And as I said in the other topic, FireWire is still supported under Ventura. So no need for TB at all.

Re: Ventura and FireFace 400 using Firewire?

Hi Michael,
I have FF400 and I use it outside sometimes. I want to know is it possible to run it without power suply, I can do it with my old macbook pro 2011. I know that you have FF800, but if anychance you have info this would be really helpful. Thanks.
