Topic: Shop for cables with Pentacon Adapter

How about availability and price of cables with pentacon adapter?
More specific for Audeze LCD-3.
I am interested to know how much this would cost.
Preferably from a company in the EU region to avoid 19% customs on top of VAT.
Many thanks.

Re: Shop for cables with Pentacon Adapter

I solder them myself. 1/4 inch TRS and XLR is easy, but Pentaconn is more a pain in the a**. Went to a surface mount device specialist for help (perhaps you know one in your acquaintanceship). That is why I have no own experience, some friends had positive with https://audioverse.de/, may be a possibility. Absolutely not cheap, but you can configure a lot of things online, including pricing.

Many thanks.
I am not so familiar with the Mini XLR plugs, but it seems I would need: Typ REAN (by Neutrik) RT4FC-B.

Re: Shop for cables with Pentacon Adapter

Just stumbled over this ... a burn-in service for a cable €25 for 100 hours, €30 for 150 hours.

Re: Shop for cables with Pentacon Adapter

EDIT: now I got it ..
I need to look for cable routing on both sides ("beidseitige Kabelführung") first.
On the web page I see the based price of different products and they seem to show the most expensive stuff first.

So then you have a price structure:
- base price of the cable
- additional price according to length and features (additional silver or not in some cases)
- additional price for y-split, 2xplugs at the headphones, 1x Pentacon plug at the headphone-amp side.

So .. for a 3m premium cable: https://audioverse.de/produkt/premium-s … oererkabel

Product Based price: € 160  (differs between cables)
3m Cable                 : € 108
Y-split, Plugs            : €   34,50
TOTAL Cost             : € 302,50

Details
Base Price:                                 € 160
3.0m OCC-Kupfer, versilbert       € 108
PLUSSOUND Aluminium Silver     €   12       Ø12,5mm x 18mm, ca 3g
2x Rean RT4 FC-B                       €    3        for Audeze LCD Series, ...
PLUSSOUND Gold Plated 4.4mm €  19,50   4.4mm (Balanced)

Usually I'm ordering similar cables at audio-hifi-shop.de. I suggest to ask this shop for an offer.

I bought my Pentaconn Plugs there: https://audio-hifi-shop.de/44mm-Pentaco … Kontakten. No problems, price was acceptable, fast delivery.

Do they really have mini XLRs like Audeze on the headphone side and "cable routing on both sides"?
Do you have perhaps a link to such a product? Many thanks.

Sennheiser HD 660S has two wire connections and they provide free pentagon cable connection when you buy them

Pentaconn seems daunting, but they are actually not. Ofcourse solder cups is nice but not necessary to get both a strong solder and good looks.  Ive been practicing soldering for a few months learning from YT and electronic shops. I suggest a low temp solder like tin/bismuth/silver solder and flux paste. This solder melts right over 130c and is as strong as any. Use some chisel tip and extra heat for the bigger inner inner rings. Alternate the direction the wire  comes at the contact to save space and bend the bare wire over the rings.

I bought a cheapo gold plattered pentaconn contact just to try it out ,but nowhere to stick it yet big_smile Good luck and ten thumbs up!

CH 660P balanced pentagon cable sold on US Sennheiser site.  Expensive though $240.  Free when you buy the headphones.
Dekoni  sells one as well on Amazon $120

Thanks, I want at least 3m cable length. Lets see.

The problem is the size and the small distance of the soldering contacts and the lack of space in the case, not the soldering itself.

We had to use a microscope and a 0.4 mm straight conical tip.

The chisel typs sent too much heat to adjacent rings.

By the way: Sennheiser has no Mini XLR Plugs at the headphone side.

Re: Shop for cables with Pentacon Adapter

I use a simple Pentaconn to XLR-4 pole adapter...muuuuch cheaper if you have that cable already...
