Topic: Adi2 pro with Uad Apollo

I have Adi2 pro Fs  connected to UAD Apollo x8p …
Adi is master set to INT optical SPDIF 96khz , apollo is slave to Spdif IN
Is this way Adi’s clock bettering up my apollo input coverters aswell ? Less jitter on Apollo AD stage?

Typically SPDIF spoils the clock.
Impossible to say without a measurement.

• Feed a clean sine wave, e.g. 1 kHz taken out of ADI-2 Pro‘s analog out.
• Run an as high as possible FFT (32k, 64k,..) with Blackman window,
• compare the jitter related sidebands.

Thnx

Is ADAT optical any better regarding clock? Aes is unfortunately not on this model of Apollo
One thing I miss in Adi2 pro is wordclock in/out, to set all my gear under adi2 clock

Re: Adi2 pro with Uad Apollo

Hi Obreza,

if you are unsure, then I would use the ADI-2 Pro as clock slave.
SteadyClock technology makes RME devices the perfect clock slave and can remove a lot of jitter.

See the RME video about steadyclock FS in this blog article:
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ent … ses-en-de/
The video is available in two languages, see English and German section in the blog article.

Another thing is, that ADI-2 DAC/Pro - even as clock slave - refreshes the clock signal and uses the own / internal FS clock for the final AD and DA conversion. This has been communicated by RME years ago in this forum.

External clocks are all not made to remove jitter.

WCLK is for basic, centralized synchronization of multiple devices.
It’s a very old concept, and extreme low jitter wasn’t under consideration in the design.
There’s even a quite high amount of jitter allowed for external clocks.

A digital converter always had to have some kind of clock refresh built in.
Not many have it as sophisticated as ADI-2.

No matter, do the simple measurements and report back please.
One or the other configuration will be better in this regard.
