Topic: Another happy customer

Hi everyone! I’m a new user, having recently purchased a Babyface Pro FS and installed Totalmix FX. This is my first audio interface. I’m ecstatic with my new setup and I’d like to explain why. I’m a hobbyist that practices on a digital piano and recreates orchestral pieces on my laptop. For several years, I was content using my digital piano with a USB mic to record locally or stream to Discord, Twitch and YouTube. I’m on a Mac, so I used Rogue Amoeba’s Loopback to connect virtual audio cables between sources and destinations.

In my new setup, I have a much nicer dynamic mic and my digital piano audio connected to the Babyface, with a USB connection to my M1 macBook, and phones and physical monitors connected to its outputs. I send MIDI directly to the laptop to utilize virtual instruments. Here are some of the reasons I’m so happy:

1) I have eliminated the need to use RA Loopback — it is fully replaced by Totalmix. By removing RA Loopback, I was able to reduce the buffer size in Nuendo (my DAW), resulting in only 4.6 ms in/out latency.  Performance is much improved. I was impressed I was able to do this because I was worried I would have to keep Loopback after watching a video that suggested using Ladiocast & Blackhole as an RME workaround.
2) I can stream simultaneously to Discord, Twitch and YouTube (I’m not interested in becoming a Twitch partner, so that’s OK).
3) I can play audio from Nuendo, Dorico, Spotify, YouTube or other applications on my laptop and route the audio both to my phones and OBS with Totalmix.
4) I can use Nuendo’s control room to set my mic as a talkback mic, allowing me to easily mute my mic to OBS whenever I wish.
5) I can easily switch between using either my digital piano’s native sounds or midi virtual instruments.

Thank you!!! The Totalmix loopback feature and software playback in the mixer has enabled all of this. I’m probably just scratching the service as I start to look at some of the FX and EQ possibilities within Totalmix.

Of course, I wish I could select individual Babyface outputs in OBS, but that is not possible with macOS. However I’m perfectly OK with the constraint of one stereo AN1/2 output to OBS (for now).
Tip for OBS users: I tried configuring the OBS audio setup in many different ways until I finally stumbled on this solution:  add a Display capture source in my scene. All of my audio devices in Settings are disabled. In the Audio / Midi Setup utility in macOS, set the Babyface as the default audio input/output device.  It works great. With this setup, OBS doesn’t need loopback enabled in Totalmix, but Discord does need it so I have it on for AN1/2 out.

If you are in a similar situation and have questions, please let me know and I can try to elaborate.
