Topic: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

Hi, I have some problem here.

When switching tracks with different sample rates, there is a problem with the frequency being displayed incorrectly in the Windows audio settings (RME driver shows frequency correctly). Also the 'RME ADI-2 DAC' output device is duplicated 3 times in the audio Windows output settings.

Last driver version that work correctly is 09805. I updated to the latest version 09833 to be able to use the new remote control, but this problem really bothers me, since periodically the sound starts to crackle or disappear at all, and I have to reboot the DAC.

I didn’t understand how to add screenshots here, so I added links to hosting:

The window top left is the setting of the WDM (Windows Driver Model), it includes MME (Microsoft Multimedia Environment) and WASAPI (Windows Audio Interface Application Programming Interface), all this is technology from Microsoft.

The window top right is the Setting of the ASIO (ASIO (Audio Stream Input Output). This interface technology is original from Steinberg Media Technologies.

Two different interfaces, not connected. The window bottem right shows only the units of WDM.

The ASIO interface can only be seen and used in programs that support ASIO, Windows itself doesn't. You have to select >ASIO: ASIO MADIface USB< in the supporting program. The Sample Rate in the top right window will be gray then and the frequency can't be chosen there anymore, the program sets the frequency automatically.

For example you can select >Realtec Digital Output (Realtec(R) Audio) in Windows and your eMail program will send the sound >you got mail< to the speaker in your Dell mointor in 44100 Hz. At the same time you can select >ASIO: ASIO MADIface USB< in foobar 2000 and send an 192000 Hz file to the RME. Top left window will show 44100, top right 192000. This is NOT a driver bug!

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

You have to select >ASIO: ASIO MADIface USB< in the supporting program.

I use 'ASIO: ASIO MADIface USB' in foobar. And I use this DAC for many years. And I have updated these drivers many times. But after version 09805 all this problems started. All this was NOT happening before. There were no 'RME ADI-2 DAC' output device is duplicated 3 times in the audio Windows output settings after switching tracks with different sample rates. And sample rates in top windows always matched. Why is that?

Same issue here.

Adi-2 listed 2 or 3 times in Windows > sound > output with different sample rates.

I want MC to check this problem. Driver 09805 is the last driver without this problems.

When you switch tracks with different sample rates, the "Analog (1+2) RME ADI-2 DAC" device starts to clone itself in the windows audio output settings and starts jumping and switching between these clones. At some point the sound disappears (or starts to crackle) in the browser or video player and I have to reboot the DAC or even PC to make these clones disappear and to get the sound back. But as soon as you start switching tracks with different sample rates, everything starts all over again. Those who say that this is how it should be, install driver version 09805 and make sure that this didn't happen before and everything worked correctly.

Before the release of the new remote control, which requires the latest driver, I was using version 09805 and wasn't going to update specifically because of this problem, but the new remote came out, and I updated to version 09833, hoping that the driver problem was fixed, but no, the problem is still there.

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

Can anyone from the RME team help with this problem? Why is there no answer?

We are still checking. Needed some time to see this effect on our systems.

Thank you!

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

Same issue occurs with ADI-2/4 Pro SE(Driver 0.9833).
I tried these two, but still occurs.
1. Clean-installing Win10
2. Update to Win11 (with Clean-Installing)

ASIO Playback applications
1. Foobar2000 (Tried several ASIO component versions but this did not help) (Tried 32bit and 64bit Versions of the application)
2. Audirvana

Actually, I think that everyone has this problem. I checked on two different PC's, one on Win 10 (Driver 09833), the other on Win 7 (Driver 09827). And both PC's had this problem.

I sometimes have this problem with my ADI-2 Pro FS too. Switching it off and on again usually fixes it, but it would be great not to have to do that.

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

Guys, in case I was not clear enough - no need to fill this thread with redundant information anymore. We were able to reproduce the issue and are trying to find the error in the driver that causes this. Unfortunately that seems to be not that easy....so just be patient.

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

Please try driver 0.9840 from the below link. It seems to have fixed the WDM issue on our computers. And there is more:

- When the sample rate was changed, the no longer valid WDM devices were not reliably deleted

- Settings dialog: reworked GUI for higher Windows compatibility

- Settings dialog: added Hi-DPI support

- Settings dialog: After a restart of the Windows Explorer the icon of the Settings dialog will be shown again in the Task Bar's notification area

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

I tried driver 0.9840.
At least my 50 times of "ASIO sampling rate changing" trial, the issue no longer occurs.
Thank you for your work!

- When the sample rate was changed, the no longer valid WDM devices were not reliably deleted

Is this a typo?

I tried new driver 09840. It seems ok now, but I noticed that "Analog (1+2) RME ADI-2 DAC" device constantly changes his order in Windows Output Settings list of devices when changing tracks with different sample rates. This doesn't look so normal.

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

It is not a typo, it is normal, and you seem not to be aware of how this works. The WDM device is deleted and reinstalled on every sample rate change. This scheme is in use for 15 years or so...

Open the old Sound control panel, tab Playback devices, and see what happens if you change the sample rate.

I checked, everything looks ok. Is it test version or final version of the driver?

This driver will be final when no other issues due to the changes in the code are found or reported. If nothing broke then latest on Wednesday the zip will be on our website.

Thanks for the quick response and fixing the problem.

Re: ADI-2 DAC Driver Bug! (Windows 10)

I've been using driver 0.9840 for a few days now and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you very much!
