I just bought this fabulous DAC! What a great set of features!
I really do not need the IR remote but I decided to check it. The RME ADI-2 DAC FS is not responding. The IR remote is definitely blinking green on any button push. Evidently this DAC had been on the shelf at Sweetwater for quite a while because it was a pretty old firmware. Firmware update was easy and quick! But it didn't help.
Any ideas?
If this thing went through multiple hands it’s settings are likely completely screwed.
Just do a reset:
While powering up, push and hold the VOL button (NOT the VOLUME dial) and Encoder 1, until you see the message: “Reset done“.
User Setups and EQ Presets are not deleted.
Or better a full factory reset:
While powering up, push and hold the VOL button (NOT the VOLUME dial) and Encoder 1 and Encoder 2, until you see the message: “Reset done“.
All user Setups and EQ Presets are deleted.
Take notes before, or store them through the Remote App, if you want to keep some.
Maybe an additional point if it still doesn't work after the reset.
Please verify the correct DAC type is selected on the back of the MRC (Multi-Remote Control), see also manual chapter 9: https://rme-audio.de/downloads/adi2dacr_e.pdf
You did mention the green LED, that should be fine based on the color. But it's been a long time since I switched that on the remote myself. It just occurred to me as an idea where you could perhaps take a look in case the reset doesn't work.

Thanks, Ramses and Kais. I will try a factory reset. Fortunately, I have my EQs stored in the ADI-2 computer remote.
The battery of the remote might be exhausted. This is easier to see when changing between DAC and Pro modes (see back of remote), as the LED will stop flashing on a long press of the SEL button.

Thanks for catching my post, MC! What a fabulous product! Very thorough, incredible attention to detail.
Anyway, I'm confused as to the definition of "flashing" in the infrared remote. Holding down SEL: Initially the LED is out, then 3-4 seconds later it lights up steady green. It remains steady forever until I release the SEL button. Upon release of SEL, the LED momentarily goes red, blue then off.
Does that mean the battery is exhausted?

A second point: I tried to reset the ADI-2 DAC by either the full or partial reset procedure. Even had my wife hold a button as I don't have enough fingers :-). In no case did I see any of the predicted behaviors. But I was able to reset to factory in the settings load factory menu.
None of this is serious, if you want to label these as "anomalies" I'm very happy with my ADI-2 DAC and I don't really need the IR remote control.

OK, progress. Thanks for your help, KaiS. I had been pushing the volume encoder instead of the volume button. So I was able to do a full factory reset.
And finally, the remote control battery was exhausted. For those who are interested: With a partially exhausted battery, holding down SEL, the LED starts off, then 3 seconds later is continuously on. Without knowing what behavior is normal, a user might think the remote is ok, but it is now. With a good battery, holding down SEL, the LED should flash regularly, perhaps 4-5 times a second.
So, all problems are solved, my RME-ADI-2 DAC is working great in all known functions.
