Re: Fireface 800 - No connection possible

I just bought another Fireface 800, I will be able to test it with my Mac in the seller’s studio ten days from today. If I connect it and it works straight away then I’ll know for sure that the FireWire i/o is rigged on my current unit. I will post the results later :-)

Re: Fireface 800 - No connection possible

Today I bought another Fireface800 and it worked right away. I’ve opened up my other unit and saw that there was a capacitor which was replaced badly with a wire connection to the underside of the main board. I will replace all capacitors on the board and on the power supply. I’m sure that will fix the problem. For now I think the problem is somewhat solved.
I will order all the parts that I need and then repair the power supply and the main pcb. I will probably post a new tread later if I managed to fix it so others with electrical skills can do the same repair if needed.

Thanks again for all your suggestions and help here on the thread, I appreciate it very much  :-)

OMG smile

Maybe it would save some effort by replacing the "professional replaced" capacitor first?
If you make sure the others are completely discharged, it should be possible to check them without disassembling.

Probably it would make also sense to buy 5 (or more) identical pieces of the replaced one. Just in case, something different is wrong and it burns directly after powering on the unit again.

Good luck!

Would be interesting to read from you, how you managed this.

Then check the other ones
