Topic: Need help setting up my RME ADI 2/4 to my RME UFX 2

Hey there, just received an RME ADI 2/4 SE and I am trying to get it hooked up and routed to my ufx so that I can:

- Monitor with XLR outputs (1/2)
- Create a pitch and catch with TRS output 3/4 and XLR input 1/2

I have been able to get it connected to my monitors but I am struggling to figure out how to get the second objective complete.

I've connected an AES cable running from the breakout cable to the AES Input on the ufx
I've set the rear TRS source to Ph 3/4

I'm using Ableton so I am using an external audio effect that's sending audio to channel 13/14 (which I assume is AES) and I am receiving audio from channel 15/16 (which I assume is ADAT 1/2). However, I don't see the needle on my compressor moving even if the input gain is cranked. This leads me to believe I have something messed up and not routed properly.

Do I need another AES cable to connect to the AES Output? Are AES and ADAT1/2 channels 13/14 and 15/16 on Ableton? Is there a setting that I'm missing on the 2/4?

Would it work better if I connected the monitors to trs outputs 3/4 that way output 1/2 is lined up with input 1/2? I've heard the output 1/2 has better stats for monitoring.

If y'all could help my brother out, I would be highly appreciative. Thank you!

You missed to set the unit into Multichannel mode. See manual.

That was helpful thank you. I'm getting signal to my hardware but I'm not getting regular level to it. I'm getting very low levels and if I turn up the phones 3/4 to feed the hardware, I am getting a weird rumble and distortion. I'm also not sure I'm getting the right channel back because when I adjust the output on the hardware there is no audible change.

Am I coming back on the right channel? It would be 15/16 (likely adat 1/2) to come back on right?

Re: Need help setting up my RME ADI 2/4 to my RME UFX 2

Do you have the routing of playback to AES at full level / unity gain in TotalMix for the UFX II? The AES out fader should also be set at unity gain, then you will have bit perfect audio passed to the ADI, and you can control the output level with the ADI.

Yes, the AES hardware output gain is at unity. and the AES software playback is at unity. Strangely, I'm not getting enough volume to the HW and now I'm not seeing any signal on 15/16/ADAT1-2.

I am getting signal on the AES faders, but I'm not seeing those signal on the HW. & I'm not getting signal to inputs 1/2

Ah I had me AES cable backwards lol. Thank you for your help, got it figured out

While I'm here I might as well ask another question. Now that everything is routed, I can't independently use the phones 3/4 apart from the analog loop. Can I use them independently from the Rear TRS? Or do I need to put them on 1/2?
