Topic: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

I am running 2 Clarett+ Octopre, and have read that the max the Raydat will report is 48k on 4 ADAT channels, but its actually running 96k.  That might be the case, but my issue now is running an ART Digital MPA II inline with the ADAT to take up the first 2 channels.  If I set the DSP Settings to Word Clock Out as Single Speed, everything says 48k (the other 2 Digital MPA II on SPDIF and AES).  If I uncheck it, the AES and SPDIF are 96k, ADAT 2 3 4 are 48k, and ADAT 1 is No Lock.

That makes me think its not running 96k on the Clarett+ Octopre, or its reporting a lower speed is conflicting with the MPA.

Any solution for this besides using the analog outs of the Digital MPA?

Re: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

It is definitely not 96k on the ADAT channels.  I removed the MPA from the chain so it is just the 2 Focusrite Clarett+ Octopre units, and all 4 says 48k while set to 96k.  Studio One recording sounds like a bit crusher, so its not working properly.

Re: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

Heh.  Well obviously im doing something wrong.  Turned off the other units and ran just the Octopre units.  Restarted Studio One.  Now it sounds fine recording.  Turned on the other units, they say 96k, and recording sounds fine (still just through channel 1 on adat 1 for testing).  Maybe it was messed up from having everything on when I started studio one?  Anyway, I think the octopre is running at 96k but saying 48k now.

Re: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

Well, easy check is:
If clocking is 96k, you should see 16 ADAT channels in TotalMix and DAW.
If clocking is 48k, you should see 32 ADAT channels in TotalMix and DAW.

You have not mentioned about clocking setup (only one device may be set as master) and how do you transport the clock signal.

Re: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

It is all on 1 wordclock out at 96k, raydat as master.  I do see 16 adat channels and think I figured it out.  I cannot put the MPA inline because it doesn't know what SMUX is.  I had probably removed it before without turning anything off, and that is what caused it to sound like a bitcrusher.

At least I can verify it is at 96k now.  Thanks!

Re: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

Same here. With my Raydat, it says 48k in Raydat even when Clarett+ is set to 96k. I can record properly at 96k via raydat.

I am using external clocking for both Raydat and Clarett+ Ocopre.

Seems there is some kind of bug on one side or the other.

Re: 48k Max with Raydat and Clarett+ Octopre

Most likely because the TOSLINK connection is only seen with 48 kHz.
96 kHz channels (double speed) you get by multiplexing audio between two 48 kHz channels.
If you can record properly at 96 kHz and if you get proper 96 kHz WAV files, then everything is ok.

I am not sure what exactly you mean by adding the MPA inline and I don't think that is possible using the adats. You need to use the MPA on the AES or spdif input, how exactly you are clockking everything is not clear yet. Please discribe all your cabling!. But I am sure this should be possible at 96K

It sounded to me as if he were using an external clock as "word clock", the ADAT links will show either 44.1 or 48 because this is the physical speed/bandwidth of such a link, double by using two channels (SMUX/2).

And he mentioned that it worked.

So I think this is for him only a "cosmetical issue" in the driver settings, not knowing that those ADAT links won't show 96 kHz.
