Topic: ADI-2 DAC FS and Windows sound

hello,

I have an ADI 2 DAC FS connected to a PC under latest Windows 11 using 1.0 drivers and I have trouble to make "regular" windows sound (youtube, video file etc etc) to work though sound throught ASIO is working flawlessly.

The DAC is well detected by windows, on the state overview DAC panel USB connection is there and if I listen Qobuz using ASIO Madiface USB interface it's working fine everytime.

Regular windows sound is working time to time (if I change frequency in the driver sometime it makes the sound working again) and I can't figure what is wrong with my setup. Everything was working fine until one month or two but I can't relate the sound to stop working with a change I've done.

To try solving the issue I have :
- reset the DAC to factory mode
- uninstall/install drivers
- tried another ADI 2 DAC FS (with the same result)
- removed the DAC in device manager to make a fresh discovery
- changed the usb port used on my PC

When sound is not working I can't play the test tone in windows sound panel (error = "Failed to play test tone")

I'm running out of ideas, can someone help me on this ?

Re: ADI-2 DAC FS and Windows sound

I'm not sure but may be you have to select USB as source for the output at the front of the device, or better use the ADI-2 remote application.
Try. https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 67#p215167

thanks for your help but I have already tried USB and Auto with the same result.

Is it working ?
It has contact to the unit and you can see changes ?

Re: ADI-2 DAC FS and Windows sound

@ waedi: The Remote has NOTHING to do with not being able to play the test sound in Sound panel. Isn't that obvious?

@ PouyouxRME: when the system sound is not working check the current sample rate in ASIO (should be the same as shown in the Settings dialog) and the sample rate that is used for playing that test tone sequence. The sample rate should be the same everywhere.

If WDM (in Sound panel) shows a different sample rate then the current WDM device could not be removed and re-added with the new ASIO sample rate because it was in use at that time. Which might explain your issue: when using ASIO and WDM (YouTube etc) simultaneously, you can not change the ASIO sample rate correctly for WDM. Whatever is using WDM must stop first.

Re: ADI-2 DAC FS and Windows sound

@MC : I understand that we cannot use the device with 2 different sample rate. I just want to use WDM output or ASIO, not both simultaneously

Even on a fresh windows start WDM is not working : https://i.ibb.co/dJgSp7TW/Screenshot-2025-04-12-102655.png

If I uninstall the driver WDM is working (but obviously I can't use ASIO)

I think I'm due to a new Windows install.

I can confirm that it works without any issue.

Re: ADI-2 DAC FS and Windows sound

As expected with a fresh Windows install everything is working fine.
I should have messed up something in my previous windows.

Nota : When you install RME 1.0 drivers on a fresh windows 11 you have to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/w … w=msvc-170 ) to solve "VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found" error message.

thanks to everybody for your help

Re: ADI-2 DAC FS and Windows sound

Note that since 05/2025 the VC runtime is included in the installer.
