Re: TotalMix FX 2.0 – first beta available for Windows (now released)
Hello everyone.
Here are my first impressions with the 2.0 beta 2 (Windows) version of TotalMix. I have assigned the command 'Toggle TotalMix Windows' to a button of the ARC USB controller. This is super practical to be able to jump back and forth between the DAW or similar and the TotalMix window using the push button. In the old TotalMix version, this also works if the focus is on another program. Unfortunately, not anymore in the new beta version. The window in the foreground is always activated.
I noticed that in the beta version, there is no longer a "Name-Field" option under "Channel Layout". As a result, you now have to color each individual channel separately. With Madi functionality and thus many channels, this is quite an arduous undertaking. Maybe you should also think about expanding the color palette. Coloring the channels without having to press the "OK" switch wouldn't be bad, either. This would allow you to change the desired colors in real time without having to call up this dialog again and again.
Topic Room EQ: It would be nice if TotalMix could remember the desired position of the Room EQ. For me, the Room EQ keeps opening at the bottom right of the screen and protrudes onto the second screen. This is very unpleasant. Maybe this is a phenomenon that will only occur with multiple screens. If you deactivate the Room EQ, the set values "Delay" and "Vol.Cal" should also be deactivated. This is the only way to quickly carry out a meaningful A/B comparison, with and without room correction. However, this also applies to the old TotalMix version.

The scaling of the new beta version doesn't seem to be fully developed yet. Especially when it comes to the side "Control Strip". I achieve different scaling results with the old TotalMix version than with the new beta version. (135% and 200% scaling each) I use a 42.5" main screen and a second 28" screen for this.
A suggestion for marking the respective hardware output channels: How about a colored border around the selected hardware output channel? At the same time, the associated hardware input channels and the software/playback channels should also be framed in the same color. In addition to the fader position, this also makes it easier to see which channels are actually assigned to the respective hardware output. See the example photo. Of course, then with clean frame lines as shown here in the example.
