Topic: Help: M-32 AD Pro mistakenly flashed with DA firmware, now stuck as DA

Hello RME team,

I need urgent help with my M-32 AD Pro (Dante version).

Due to a mistake, I accidentally flashed the M-32 DA firmware onto it:
m32da_mk2_dante_1.3.1_v18.swu

After reboot, the unit now identifies itself as “M-32 DA Pro” and works only as a DA converter.

The device still boots normally and Web Remote is accessible, but now I cannot flash the correct AD firmware anymore:

m32ad_mk2_dante_1.3.1_v18_20250325.swu

The updater refuses the file and does not allow firmware downgrades or model switching.

Things I have already tried:
- USB connection firmware update
- Dante (Web Remote) firmware update
- Power cycle / full shutdown
- Re-flashing the DA firmware (works)
- Flashing the correct AD firmware (always rejected)

Current state:
- Unit is running
- Shows up as M-32 DA
- Firmware 1.3.1 (DA)
- Cannot return to AD mode
- Cannot use as AD converter

I urgently need to restore this unit to M-32 AD functionality.
Is there a recovery firmware or model correction SWU available?

Contact seller for repair options

you say unit is running, what does that mean ? It can be used as converter the other way DA instead of AD ?

Yes, it works as a DA converter, but I can't convert it back to an AD converter in web remote.I tried contacting the seller, but they haven't responded yet, and I still need to use it for work today.

Thank you so much. The recording work is very demanding; I already had a time scheduled with the client, so I've been working hard to find a solution. I apologize for bothering you on the weekend.

That's not a problem if it's urgent, but I can't help personally right now, it's been forwarded to developers.

No problem, thanks for forwarding it. I'll patiently wait for the developer's reply.:)

Hi,
I've sent you an email with a specially prepared firmware with checks disabled.

For all others reading along: This a rare case - we have checks in place that only allows firmware images for the correct model to be flashed. However, a couple of M-32 Pro ADs have accidentally been prepared with a wrong marker at the factory. This is corrected with the first firmware update - except if a DA fw image (again by accident) is used, like in this case.

+1 Also impressed by the speed here!

But better to not take this for granted and avoid running major updates so shortly before a session in the future ;p.
