Topic: Digiface Dante - Connection with PC via Network cable

I have a question regarding the functionality of RME's network interfaces - specifically the Digiface Dante.

I understand that the interface offers USB 3 to connect to the computer and the ethernet ports can be used to connect to all kinds of devices with the Dante network functionality.

Now, I have the following situation. My main workstation ist a Mac and I want to connect it via USB3 to the Dante face. All my converters are connected via Madi or Dante. But I also have a Windows PC that I would like to be able to occasionally connect to the same loudspeakers - ideally without having to change any cabling. That is why I would like to connect it to the interface via ethernet? Is that possible?

If so, what are the prerequisites or options to achieve that? Do I need a Dante controller card? Do I need a Dante license for that computer? Or will Totalmix also work with the connection via ethernet? Can I run both the Mac and the PC simultaneously?

Yes when you install dante virtual soundcard it will make itself known as a soundcard to dante controller and you can route from there.

Brilliant! Thank you.

So, just to be sure: this is only possible after buying the Audinate virtual sound card? I am asking, because on the RME website under Downloads I get offered two different drivers for the DF Dante for Windows:

- Windows Network Driver for Digiface AVB /Dante and AVB Controller
- x64 / Arm 64 bit driver for Windows 10 and up, MADIface USB series

That to me looked like there was a new option to connect to the interface via network instead of USB. But maybe I misunderstand the reason for those separate drivers.

Apart form that I would be happy for real-live feedback from anyone who already uses the device in a similar scenario:

Can I route audio channels from the PC via DF Dante to my loudspeakers and route the Mac to the same channels at the same time? or is it necessary to switch settings for that? In Total mix I know that I can route different playback channels to the same output channels. But I don't know, if Dante allows that as well.

Rme gives you the usb driver to use it as a soundcard.
