Topic: Babyface Pro - Dynamic mic problems

To cut a long story short........I have 2 dynamic mics and they only work when 48v is switched on in Total Mix.

I understand this is not right and they should work without it. One of them has a preamp in it (SE DCM8) and this mic does not work at all when on preamp mode and 48v switched on. It only works when preamp is switched off and phantom power is on. Which is completely illogical to me.

Does anybody know what could cause this? Thanks in advance

Re: Babyface Pro - Dynamic mic problems

I guess the ON/OFF switch in the mic is soldered wrong.
Or the print of I and O is wrong.
These switches are not made for switching often.
A manufacturer failure, send back or live with it, the switch on the wrong position.

Thanks but my other mic is a Shure 58beta - why would that only work when phantom power is switched on?

There seems to be a serious lack of gain somewhere.

Re: Babyface Pro - Dynamic mic problems

The Shure Beta 58 does not have active circuitry. 48V/Phantom should have no effect. What do you have the gain set to? Please show a screenshot of the TotalMix input channel for that mic.

Re: Babyface Pro - Dynamic mic problems

Think I sorted it. The xlr cable extension was screwing things up and taking power out. Lesson learned.
