Topic: Mac Mini Tahoe 26.2 and ADI-2 DAC FS

Hey all, I've been happily using my RME with my Mac Mini [M1 chip] for years, but sadly I updated to Tahoe / 26.2.

The result is that I cannot get a signal from my Mini to the RME any more.

Attempted resolution:
I went to the RME website, redownloaded the latest Mac drivers (fut_madiface_mac), and then ran the RME USB Series Flash Tool.  I chose to UPDATE, which seemed to work fine.

I went to the System Info, and in the report saw the ADI-2, so the Mac "knows" the RME is attached.

However, when going into System | General | Login Items & Extensions, there is nothing from RME to enable.  Screenshot attached.

Any suggestions on how to get the RME to show up in the Extensions list?

best,
keith

Re: Mac Mini Tahoe 26.2 and ADI-2 DAC FS

Hi Keith

Startup items and extensions can not have an RME driver as there is no one in your case.
The DAC does not have a driver it is a class compliant device on Mac.

User manual page 7 :

USB 2.0: Standard USB socket for connection to the computer. The ADI-2 DAC operates as
Class Compliant device, in 2-channel mode. It can be directly used with Mac OS X and iOS
(iPad, iPhone). For Windows the RME MADIface series driver adds WDM and ASIO.

Try :
MacOS system preferences / Audio / Output : select the DAC

Re: Mac Mini Tahoe 26.2 and ADI-2 DAC FS

Thanks DAW Mastermind, but unfortunately no success.

I have the old ADI-2 FS, if that matters.

The Mac is a Mac Mini M1, just recently updated to Tahoe 26.2.  My music collection is managed by Apple Music (aka iTunes), and has been for the last few years, working great.

Symptoms:

* The DAC appears to sense no signal is coming into it (the meters remain flat even as Apple Music is playing the song).

* Strangely, the sound when I choose to play a song is coming out of my iPad (I am using Apple Remote to select a song and push play). I have also tried using remote software, and using Apple Music directly on the Mac Mini.

* Input on the DAC is set to "auto", but I've also selected USB with no success.

Might you have any suggestions on how to determine if a signal is successfully leaving the Mac Mini and arriving to the DAC, and that I've accidentally screwed up a setting in the DAC?

best,
Keith

Re: Mac Mini Tahoe 26.2 and ADI-2 DAC FS

None of this has anything to do with the converter, the unit can't tell the Mac where to send the playback. Check the audio settings, make sure you've selected the ADI as default audio interface. Also try other playback software. There seems to be something misconfigured in Apple Music, otherwise why would playback take place on the iPad?

Re: Mac Mini Tahoe 26.2 and ADI-2 DAC FS

Open the app Audio-Midi-Setup

On the left side the ADI has to be listed
right-click onto it and select it for output device.
Also check speaker configuration there

Also please tell what device you exactly have.
you started with ADI-2 DAC FS
then you say it is an old ADI-2 FS, but this does not have USB !

The ADI-2 FS is newer than, for instance, the ADI-2 Pro, the ADI-2 DAC FS, and the ADI-2 Pro FS (non-R) wink

Re: Mac Mini Tahoe 26.2 and ADI-2 DAC FS

Hey community, thanks very much for the posts.  In the end, it took wiping the Mac Mini clean (full factory reset) to get the RME recognized and properly used for music output.
