Topic: Digiface Dante - USB device not recognised

Hi, I can't get my Digiface Dante working with Windows 11 Pro after days of trying.

Every time I connect the device, it may or may not work briefly but I will get a USB Device Not Recognised - Port Reset Failed error. I get a notification that the last USB device I connected has failed.
I've installed, removed and reinstalled the MADIface USB and network drivers several times. The MADIface control panel recognises the device and seems to communicate with it, so does TotalMix. But Dante Controller will not recognise any Dante devices. It is also telling me "Invalid Address Config - a local non Dante interface has an IP address in the same subnet as a dante interface". I presume once the driver / USB problem is fixed then I can fix that.

I have set WDM to a non-zero number (2, 8, 16). In Device Manager I have gone to the two USB Root Hub devices and un-checked the boxes allowing the device to go to power saving mode. In Advanced power settings I turned off USB Selective Suspend (Windows did not even display this setting for me to adjust - I had to google it and find a command prompt line to add a registry key to make it display this option again. When I did, the setting was turned on, I turned it off). All the PC drivers and BIOS were updated when the PC was built new 3 weeks ago. After all these changes and settings I restarted the PC whenever prompted.
Always, the USB device not recognised error keeps returning. It's not loading / starting the driver.

In Device Manager it's an unknown device. I tried updating drivers, browsing to the RME folder. It tells me the best driver is already in use, but it doesn't seem to start that driver.
I updated the firmware in the Digiface Dante with the Windows firmware update.
I have made sure the MADIface settings app and TotalMix are starting with Windows.

Those were all the tips I have been able to find online and none of them have fixed the problem. Sometimes the driver will load and the device is recognised, but never for long, it always stops and I get the USB device not recognised error again. At no point has the device ever appeared in Dante Controller - it says 0 devices.

The interface was new, bought for Black Friday. The one thing I've read that I cannot check is whether the Digiface is in Class Compliant mode, because I don't own a Mac. I might be able to use one after this weekend. When I got it firmware version was 57, after updating it is 68. But I don't see why it should be in CC mode - AFAIK they don't come from the factory that way. Or do they?

I have run out of things to check and I need some help. Is there anything else that I should try?

Re: Digiface Dante - USB device not recognised

Should not come from the factory in CC, but I can't rule that out 100%. If it turns out to be that, please send me the serial number. Otherwise, can you test with another PC and all available USB ports?

Re: Digiface Dante - USB device not recognised

Also, if the MADIface software logs any errors, where can I see them? Are there any other logs I should check, for eg error msg output from the usb driver?

Yes, I can tomorrow. I have already tried all the USB-A ports on the DAW PC.
I've heard of this CC issue before, would the problems on my PC be consistent with that? I also wanted to try replacing the cable but I didn't have any available at the time, i will tomorrow.

Re: Digiface Dante - USB device not recognised

It turns out all that was wrong was the USB 3.0 A to B cable supplied with the interface. It was my mistake to assume that it worked, I thought that the one supplied might have been tested or at least good enough quality to rely on during setup, but I was unfortunate.
Now at least the driver loads and the system recognises the device, but I still can't get Dante Controller to recognise it. It gives me this error message - "Invalid Address Configuration. A local non-Dante interface has an IP address on the same subnet as a Dante Interface".
I'm not at the venue so I've only connected the PC to the DF Dante, by USB and Ethernet cable. Primary port on the interface to the PC, and I have selected that Ethernet port in Dante Controller. So, I don't understand what other device Dante Controller is referring to. I've googled this message but I don't understand what to do to fix it, can anyone advise?
Thanks in advance

There can only be one Dante primary port

I don't understand how I would have multiple, there is only the PC connected to the interface now, no console or other Dante device.
I think I configured the ports on the PC so that DC can find the interface, but it still does not recognise any Dante devices on the network.

Re: Digiface Dante - USB device not recognised

I found that the USB cable supplied with the Digiface Dante was faulty, replacing it fixed the problem.
I had to configure the Ethernet port the DF is connected to as a Private network. That got it working and at long last, Dante Controller recognised the device.
But next time I boot the computer, all the network settings change. Windows finds all the devices, allocates all new logical ports so the interface is now on Ethernet 3, not Ethernet where it was when I got it working yesterday.
Now I am back to Dante Controller unable to find the Digiface Dante and says zero devices and telling me there is a network config problem or whatever. Too hard, you have to be a networking specialist to get it working and I'm not.

What do I do? This is beyond me. Why do you have to know so much about networking just to plug in one device and have it work? How come when I do get it working, next time I boot it no longer works? I don't know what is wrong and I have no idea what to do about it.
PLEASE HELP!! Once I somehow do get it going, is there some way I can stop Windows or whatever it is from breaking it on the next reboot?

This is just too hard. I want to do audio, not fight with network settings when I'm not an IT consultant. This is ridiculous, will I have to change network settings every time I want to connect this device? This is not worth it. I paid a lot of money for this device and weeks later i STILL cannot keep it working for more than one session. PLEASE, can someone explain what I need to do to Just Make It WORK!! I am ready to sell the stupid thing or throw it away, it is NOT worth this frustration
