Topic: Digiface Dante-Distorted Headphone Output

I’ve been waiting for a reply from support for a couple weeks, so thought I would try here as well.

Digiface Dante on MacBook Pro M4 Sequoia. Bus powered via USB3 cable. Headphone output distorted.

Unit tracks and passes digital audio fine. Headphone output is distorted unless ran at very low volume. This is true for live monitoring and playback.

Hi jaketillmann86,

welcome to the RME user forum.

At what volume setting of the TotalMix FX output fader does the distortion occur?

Does it make a difference if you use the included power supply instead of operating the Digiface Dante USB-3 bus-powered?

Can you try connecting the headphones to other devices? Does distortion occur at the same volume?

Do you have a possibility to connect the phone's output to an analog input to record something from that output?
Then you could use different volume levels for phones and check whether the distortion is still there without the phones.

Re: Digiface Dante-Distorted Headphone Output

I have checked our support Mail for your email, but somehow it did not arrive at our support. (checked with your email and name)

Nevertheless, is the Dante signal clean in the recording and playback?
If the Dante signal is clean and it is not the headphone itself it probably is the headphone output itself. That needs to be serviced.

Same here, can't find anything with the name or mail address.

I submitted two forms via this webpage: https://rme-audio.de/contact.html

The Dante signal records clean and the headphones check out on other devices.

Distortion sets in around -20.

I unfortunately no longer have the power supply to test.

I can test sending the headphone out to another device tomorrow!

Re: Digiface Dante-Distorted Headphone Output

You also could measure and film the distortion with Digicheck.
Open 2 Digicheck analysers
1 for a Totalmix Loopback of the headphone output
1 for cable loopback from headphone output to an analog input of any device connected to the Dante to bring back the signal into an input channel if you have an AD-converter who can do this.

Re: Digiface Dante-Distorted Headphone Output

The Dante signal records clean and the headphones check out on other devices.

Then the headphone output is most probably defective. Please ask your retailer for service options.
