Topic: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

Hi all,

I have been trying to get my sample rate from Tidal playing higher than 44Khz. No matter what I try the ADI-2 always shows 44. I have the ADI's FW updated, I have the latest Windows driver installed for the ADI-2, I'm using the Tidal app in exclusive mode and am connected via the USB interface. Even if Tidal says that it's outputting at 92Khz the ADI-2 still shows 44. What am I doing wrong?

My Windows audio output device for the RME shows as "Analog (1+2) (RME ADI-2 DAC)".

Thank you

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

To allow Windows to automatically switch sample rate, uninstall and delete the RME Madiface driver.
ADI-2 DAC as Class Compliat device works works without.

Manual chapter 20:

De-installing the Driver

Windows Plug & Play methods do not cover the registration of the ASIO driver. This entry can be removed from the registry by a software de-installation request. This request can be found (like all de-installation entries) in Control Panel, Programs and Features. Click on the entry 'RME MADIface', then Uninstall.

To use Windows own Class Compliant drivers the RME driver has to be removed completely (for example after a firmware update). In Device Manager select the ADI-2 DAC under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, right click and choose Uninstall. In the next dialog make sure to check 'Delete the driver software for this device'. Otherwise the driver will stay within the Windows installation and gets reinstalled automatically after the next reboot.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

I did not show any Madiface driver under Control Panel > Uninstall Programs so I uninstalled the driver via Device Manager and rebooted. Now under Device Manager it showed three separate entries for the RME, one being under Unknown Devices. I re-installed the official RME driver (Madiface) and am back to square one.

Should I just uninstall the official RME driver (Madiface) and leave it as is? Windows sees it as an unknown Device.

I noticed that with the Madiface driver removed the RME sample rate was now locked at 48Khz but never changed from there. So nothing seems to have fixed the issue either way.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

Which Windows version do you have? USB Audio Class 2.0 native driver was introduced in Windows 10 1703.

Windows 11 24H2

No one has a version older than that one from 2021.

In other words, the above is true for 99.99% of all Windows users.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

Also, without the official RME driver, when selecting exclusive mode within Tidal the audio does not change at all. WITH the driver installed the audio seems to be taken over by Tidal and becomes full output/louder.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

Just counterchecked:

Without the Madiface driver installed, on Windows 11, I can manually set any sample rate I want (192 kHz suggested).
But – I cannot make Tidal automatically switch sample rate according to the track played.

Tried every setting of “Exclusive Mode” in Tidal and Windows Setting.

Tidal says it should work under certain circumstances, but doesn’t here:
https://support.tidal.com/hc/en-us/arti … usive-Mode

I don’t want to try the Madiface driver install on this PC, to keep it as clean as possible.
I’m usually streaming Tidal from iOS, where SR switching simply works.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

What is showing in your device manager when the RME is plugged in and turned on? Anything under Unknown Devices?

How are you manually setting the sample rate?

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

Ok, I just tried Qobuz and it is detecting MADIface ASIO USB as an audio output device. When selecting this output device and then playing a song from Qobuz that's showing as 24-bit 88Khz the RME is also now showing 88! So, for whatever reason TIDAL isn't detecting the ASIO output device. WTF TIDAL

Please search this forum for Tidal. It's all said and written before already.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

I did but there didn't seem to be anything matching my issue. But from my last post it looks like TIDAL just doesn't detect this ASIO driver in Windows.

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

AFAIK Tidal does not support ASIO.

Often mentioned solutions include other (ASIO) players that can handle Tidal, like Audirvana.

Looks nice, but unfortunately only available per Abo.

The VB-cable (ASIO-Bridge) is donation-ware:

Re: ADI-2 FS Tidal Sample Rate Lock

You will need to use either Audirvana or VB-Cable ASIO-Bridge to enable TIDAL to automatically switch your DAC's sampling rate. I tested both options—they work. However, be sure to enable "Exclusive Mode" in the output settings of the TIDAL application.
