Topic: If you’re using Linux with RME Fireface devices, this might be helpful

If you’re a Linux user with RME Fireface series hardware and have been waiting for official Linux support, it might be helpful to be aware of the current situation before posting questions or requests about it.

At the moment, Fireface devices work quite well on Linux in class-compliant mode, although there are some limitations. For example, the TotalMix FX application is not available for Linux.

However, the Oscmix project (especially the Qt version), which is an independent and unofficial open source project not affiliated with RME, already offers very promising support as an alternative to TotalMix FX.

At the time of writing, the project is still in an alpha stage. That said, for example, the Fireface 802 already works quite well with Oscmix.

It is definitely worth checking out and supporting the project. You can do this by testing it, sharing your experiences with the developer, and reporting any bugs you encounter.

Oscmix also runs on macOS, so feedback from Mac users can help improve the project and benefit users across both operating systems.

Please note that RME is not involved in the Oscmix project and therefore cannot be held responsible for its functionality or for any potential issues or damage that may result from using it.

Of course, the availability of official support is ultimately up to RME.

I see you have been involved with this for a number of years, as this topic as been in discussion already: https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=38917

I am not as knowledgeable as most regarding this. All I know is that it looks like a very viable option for anyone looking to control RME interfaces outside of Windows and MacOS. I am particularly interested, but I have the original UFX and I see that is not supported. I did see some info/comments about the option for a WebUI, which would be extraordinary! I guess I'll just keep waiting and hopeful for some other options.

Because no one provided the according logs/traces for UFX till now. And as I don't own it - the project relies on contributions by users serving the necessary information to adapt unsupported devices.
Feel free to open an issue at https://github.com/huddx01/oscmix/issues
I could give instructions then...

Re: If you’re using Linux with RME Fireface devices, this might be helpful

Hi,
I used Windows for two years now and really grew attached to Totalmix. For the obvious reasons I really want to go back to Linux though and as we are still waiting for Totalmix for Linux I am looking for an alternative. Oscmix seems to be what I was looking for.

I just downloaded and started oscmix and it didn't find my UFX (though in class compliant mode and detected by Reaper).
So I'd like to say hi to the oscmix communitiy and ask where all the help ressources are to try and help myself or where the best place is to ask questions.

I'm not a pro at all but know a few beginner level things about developing. Once I've got oscmix running, I'll be happy to provide feedback or contribute. If I can that is of course and if it is wanted.

Liebe Grüße,
Timo

Maybe the best way is to ask for help through GitHub. Create a new issue or continue an existing one if it’s related to the topic.

RME’s own forum might not be the right place to discuss Oscmix support alone at least not without RME’s permission, since it’s not an official RME application.

Re: If you’re using Linux with RME Fireface devices, this might be helpful

No special permission needed, I'd say. This subforum is open to any topic that's specific to Linux and RME devices.
Whether or not direct assistance can be provided here is another matter, of course...

Thanks @sjzstudio and @RME Support for the answers. I will try through GitHub as this seems more oscmix related than RME related.
Would love RME to do an official Totalmix for Linux, too, though. <3

Thanks @sjzstudio for chiming in and @RME Support clarification.
And thanks for your interest @Timo Pascal.

Of course, every one is free to ask questions either here or on my github repo.
I'll try to answer as soon as possible and as good as I can. At least everything oscmix/linux related...
