Topic: RME HDSPe Driver 4.62 default main out connection = phones - why?

Installing RME HDSPe Driver 4.62 for the first time on fresh Windows 11 install "problems":

1.Since users might not have Windows sounds disabled yet you'll get a full blast notification sound - maybe related to https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=43300 - not sure if it was a success or error sound

2. You turn down the main volume (since not checked the default connection) and start playback of any fine

Result: Music playing on full blast since default main out is connected to "Phones" instead of "Analog 1/2"

Expected: Default main out is connected to "Analog 1/2" (which I think is the most used output) - with this I wouldn't have get "blasted"

What is your interface ?

Default settings are different on different interfaces, this is not just the driver installation.

And the default workflow is to start with Totalmix configuration after installation before playing music.

Assign Main and phones to your desire and make the basic routing having control over the outputs volume and then make first tests with music play.

In the cases where by default the Main-out is assigned to an output the volume is set to -10, this is not full blast, drpending on your headphone it can be loud indeed.

you always have to be aware of the volume on your loudspeakers and headphones.

Re: RME HDSPe Driver 4.62 default main out connection = phones - why?

I see

The default routing in Totalmix is very minimalistic here.

The software playback channels are routed to the same number output and those outputs are set to -10

Does the windows driver automatic configure windows audio settings Phones = default main out  ?
On Mac it does not.
Anyway you have to check Totalmix and low down the headphone output before play.

Edit : Windows driver installer readme text could include "do not wear headphones during installation."

Common sense does not need to be mentioned.

True

But the question remains, does the HDSP-AIO Windows driver installer force Windows audio setting to select phones channel ?
