Topic: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

I do have some trouble with conrolling the 12mic via Totalmix. Works in priciple. In particular gain changes are transferred perfectly; also during initialisation. But its seams to be different with phase. Totalmix is indicating the phase is switched on. Using the web application to monitor and control the 12mic the phase switch is off. Now - is it off or on?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

I choose UCX ll because it is a newer one interface and check the user manual,
page 78 :
To simplify operation the most important in-
put parameters (gain, 48V, mute, AutoSet)
can be controlled directly from the TotalMix
FX input channels.

Phase inversion switch seems not remote work on the 12Mic, it works in Totalmix only.
For good reason, if it switches on both places the phase would stay normal.
Two times phase inversion is nonsense.

For remotely switching the phase you better use the RME Connector app.

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

Thanks. Hope I understand.
So it means I can either use the switch at the 12mic (hardware based) or the switch in Total Mix (software based)?

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

The state of the device needs to be correctly displayed everywhere.
I can confirm that remote controlling the phase works by webgui, but not when using TotalMix FX (Auxdevice).
Looks to me like a bug.

No, waedi doesn't seem to know how remote control usually works, and that TotalMix (Auxdevice), WebGUI, and the display of the 12Mic normally should be in sync.

Example: I am changing the gain of 12Mic channel 5 using the WebGUI.
While doing that, the exact status is being shown at the device's display and also in TotalMix.

As all other remote control functions are working, I assume that phase is not yet implemented into Auxdevice / 12Mic.

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

Thanks Ramses,

I agree with you. All parameters should be in sync. And apart from phase it works.

I use the "init device with TM at start-up" function to sync from the beginning. Now. if phase doese not work - what does it mean. Will the phase shift be switched off? In that case it looks more stable, to only use presets at the 12mic - instead of snapshots in Totalmix.

If it doesn't work then it won't change it at all.

But your 12Mic has a user preset. The state of phase should be covered by the user preset of the 12Mic.

Cross-check it with the web browser. It will tell you the current state of the "phase" reliably.
Also, the display of the 12Mic should show it reliably on a per-port basis.

If you are unsure, validate it by comparing the state of all 12 ports one by one with the status in the web browser.

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

The phase button is a feature of TotalMix. It is always there, regardless if remote control is activated or not. Using remote control does not re-assign this button to send a MIDI command to the 12Mic instead.

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

Thanks for clarification!

But it`s confusing - isn't it? I really would expect, settings at the 12mic being reflected in TM and vv.

If somebody controls remotely the settings he can't be sure whether the actual mix is correct (here batter and resonant in opposite phase) or not...

I think I will really step back from the MIDI over MADI option and only use presets at the 12mic.

Anyhow - thanks again to all contributions / contributors.

Re: Totalmix would not control phase at the 12mic

The polarity switch in Totalmix applies to routing/monitoring, not to the physical input or recorded signal. This is independent from what happens at the inputs of the 12Mic.

Did you try out Connector app ?

It is beautiful and comfortable...
Also it can store and load presets if you still need.

I think there is no real need for this; you only need to know that phase is always something to be controlled in TM FX.

BTW, I was not aware of it as well. Once knowing this its fine by me.

Still, it is very useful to have the remote control in one application (TM FX, Auxdevice via MIDI over MADI).
