Topic: Digi96 PST/8 installation help needed

I have a Digi96 PST/8 PCI card which I have installed in a new computer but am having problems with the driver.  It previously ran in an older computer without any problems.

Went through the usual installation procedure through device manager all seem to go okay.  On restart, the computer automatically shuts down once past the bios and as it starts to launch windows.  Once I delete the driver (windows won't let me automatically uninstall the driver) the problem resolves.

* Operation system (version/service pack): windows XP professional SP2 (5.1.2600)
    * Mainboard: Intel DP43BF
    * RAM amount: 4 gig DDR3
    * CPU E6500

Driver: w2k_2.11 from RME website.

Help

Re: Digi96 PST/8 installation help needed

Please provide more details... E.g. was the card detected as new hardware etc.?

Re: Digi96 PST/8 installation help needed

- New Hardware was detected by windows
- Selected control panel/system/hardware /device manager to install driver (W2K_211 downloaded from RME website)
- Chose the location from which to install the driver
- Selected digi96.inf
- Selected Digi96 PST.

Installation process occurred

Selected restart computer - then the problem occurred as previously described.

Actions already taken to resolve the problem:

Windows has been fully reinstalled on a reformatted hard disk
Used a different PCI slot
Re-downloaded the driver from RME website

Re: Digi96 PST/8 installation help needed

That sounds like an access or memory problem. First pull out the PST and carefully clean the gold contacts with a pencil rubber. Next step would be to enter the mobo BIOS and disable or enable the upper memory option which gives more memory to your XP. A test with reduced memory (remove one or 2 GB) would be interesting too.

Re: Digi96 PST/8 installation help needed

Hi Daniel

I've tried all these - all to no effect - the problem remains.

I have noticed that although PCI card is a digi 96 PST( verfied by the original box and the printing on the PCI card itself), the ID for the device in windows is shown as 3FC3 which I understand is the Digi96PAD. Unsure whether this affects anything.

Also should I disable the legacy audio?

Any other advice to get this card operating would be gratefully received.

Re: Digi96 PST/8 installation help needed

I just had this problem.
Try to clean the PCI pins of the card (do not touch anything else) with isopropyl alcohol or acetone.
Let it evaporate for 10-12 minutes and mount it again.
Sometimes the pins get dirty or are not all of them making contact and ... it is recognized but not as it should be.
I made that , and now it works.
And the same "error" was shown :
The driver is not for that device , or something like that.
After cleaning, it works like new...
