Topic: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

I posted about this last night but it seems to have been deleted!! Why?

Auto Direct Monitoring is now a disaster when used with the like of Cubase. Live monitoring of tracks get left activated as you work leading to confusion in monitoring. It seems there is no communication in disarming during certain operations in Cubase.

Will this be fixed?

You posted it two times and you got a reply in the other thread, so this will be deleted again.

Re: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

Apologies for the double post - I couldn't find my first post for some reason. Don't get me wrong - I love my HDSPe and Adat MADI bridge. Its been doing me proud for a lot of years now.... but the latest update I want to work exactly like it did before in terms of ADM

The reply in that thread (if the info was meant for me) doesn't seem to fix my problem.
I had already configured inputs mono, outs stereo for Totalmix FX which certainly helped very strange things to begin with. But the behaviour of monitoring getting left activated once a channel in/out is altered in Cubase while a track is armed still persists. Is there something I'm missing here?

A 'README' for users of the original Totalmix in this update would have been useful perhaps to save you trouble in the forums :-)

Re: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

Cubase version? You seem to have a reproducible behavior - then please check and report the current setup of the involved tracks. Mixer bus in Cubase - Mono or Stereo in? Mono or Stereo out? Default is Stereo out. If you route to Mono outputs in Cubase please change that to Stereo.

Re: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

Hi Matthias

My cubase connections are in Stereo output pairs as I tend to use stereo group outs for monitoring to my desk
RME Totalmix FX inputs are Mono in
RME Totalmix FX Outputs are Stereo

Cubase 8.05 running on Windows 8.1.  All drivers for everything are up-to-date.

To reproduce the issue here what I've found
Set up a track in cubase routed to a stereo out routed to say Outputs 17+18
Select the input as Mono input 1 in cubase for the audio track and monitor the input
Watch the matrix. Track 1 is routed to 17+18 correctly
Now without turning off the monitoring in Cubase change the input to 2 on the audio channel
Look at the matrix.... input 1 is still left routed to 17+18 as is Input 2!!!
Interestingly - Change the input to 3 and now inputs 1, 2 and 3 are left sent to 17+18

Now... change the input back to 1 on the channel and I've just noticed that all the assignments above go away and I'm left correctly with input 1 sent to 17+18 as desired.

Is this clear?

Re: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

Yes, and expected. You are not allowed to change the routing without switching off ADM first, simply because ADM then does not send a 'reset' signal (AFAIK). But as you claim that this worked in the old TM we will check again. Maybe we overlooked something that was added to the old TM to prevent such behavior.

Re: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

Yes this did work previously in totalmix. I never had a situation while changing inputs of monitoring getting left on the old assignment as well as the new. The only time I got assignments hanging over was when something in the system crashed or hung (rarely) a restart usually cleared that. Rme drivers have always been excellent.

There might be something 'lucky' or an ingenious workaround By one of your programmers of totalmix that didn't get brought over to totalmix fx

Re: ADM is broken in TotalMix FX

Unfortunately it stops already in the beginning. Cubase does send a reset whenever you change the input in the mixer bus to a different channel - at least the older versions that we tested. Means we can not reproduce the behavior that you described.

For the time being - simply switch ADM off in that channel before changing the routing.
