Topic: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

Hi,

I want to use this powerbank: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00LPHRBPO/ref … TE_3p_dp_1

But something goes wrong ...

1. I loaded the powerbank to 82% and then plugged it into the ADI-2 Pro.

2. When turning on the ADI-2 Pro, somthing like an internal relay in the ADI-2 Pro is instantly
flipping at high rate ~3-4x per second.

3. The connected headphone on port 3/4 is also making klicks and pops at the same rate.

Powering on the ADI-2 Pro only works, when I plug the power cable into the 9/12V plug (output) of the Xoro.
Then the display becomes lit. Otherwise nothing happens.
The Display shows 9V.

Whats wrong ? Any idea ?

EDIT: on the right side there is a switch to set the output to 12V.
But this doesn't make any difference.

BTW, while there is this "relais clicking noise", the power-off knob of the ADI-2 Pro doesnt work immediately, it lasted some time until it became active to power off the device.

EDIT2: I clicked now several times on the right button on the Xoro, thought maybe the 12V are not locked, as it was blinking. And then the "clicking noise" vanished.

But I thought/hoped too early. After about 30-60sec after powering on the ADI-2 Pro it started again. This time not directly from the beginning .. but again ...

Up to now I didn't get any working result.

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

The relais are directly connected to the 12V power supply. They let you hear what you could measure with a voltmeter - the 9/12V from the Xoro is shut off repeatedly.

I would return this power bank immediately, as its output stage is not working as expected (not reliable, not stable). This does not happen with the power bank that I use, and of course it should not happen with any such product.

I don't understand. This is the only way to use it, so how did you do it?

I expected that the ADI-2 Pro can be powered on at any time when the power cable is connected to both devices.
But this is not the case.

The ADI-2 Pro did not always start up with the Xoro connected. It was not the plug on the ADI-2 Pro side. When unplugging and replugging the power plug on Xoro side, then the display became lit and I was able to power the ADI-2 Pro on.

I will return the unit and make some thoughts whether I should get another one or should try a different one.

Any suggestion which company is good in this area ? I think the unit which you use is currently not available with Amazon, I need to look whether there other sources.

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

Switching on the Xoro might start a start-up process in it that sees the connected ADI and freaks out. Plugging the cable in while the Xoro is already started might work better then. Still this sounds like crap.

Yes, the one that I use is not easy to find these days. The photo is still in Google...

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

I use this one
https://www.amazon.com/XTPower-XT-16000 … B01MDM2V6H
and it works very good. Either the adi-2 pro uses more current than stated (which I don' think) or these relatively cheap consumer grade batteries don't last as much as they should.
the only setting I found to lower power consumption was to intuitively lower to minimum the rme display brightness.
Matthias, how long does your battery lasts more or less and what's its capacity?
Is there any setting that helps making the rme less 'hungry' ? (I don't think so..)
as I wrote in another unanswered post, I never found the right plug, I tested the many standard ones that the battery came with but they all seemed not fit and the adi-2 looses power at the minimum movement, I had to put velcro to constrain the plug.. I really wish there were a reliable connector for field use as some location recordists like me would love it I guess. the screw on plug doesn't exist anywhere, unless I didn't search well enough:)

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

I have the left one:
https://www.amazon.com/XTPower-XT-16000 … 5L44E?th=1
which is hard to get here in Germany. I used it often for tests and with the Babyfaces, and also tried it with the ADI-2 Pro. For that I would indeed recommend the 15,000 one  as the ADI draws a lot more power than the BFs. The included cable fits perfectly with the ADI-2 Pro, no problem. And yes, the bajonet-style connector seems to be available nowhere sad

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

Ah ok, so you mean this one: XTPower XT-16000QC2 PowerBank with 15600mAh

"Flexibility in charging the Power Bank. You can charge your energy storage using either a USB power supply via the micro USB input or the DC input to a power supply (13-20V). A full charge with a matching power supply can be reached within 2,5 hours (power adapter not included). "

Wow .. loads in 2.5 hours .. the Xoro needs 4h if I remember right.
But they do not include an adapter for loading .. this is included with the Xoro ...
I will see this evening whether I can get it from the UK.

Maybe I can use my quickcharger as they got power in by micro USB.

Or a notebook power supply! Crazy that the 16000 is not available via Amazon or xtpower.de in Germany.

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

I see .. curious is that they offer 2 models with 16000 where I currently do not see the technical difference,
the 2nd unit is a little bit heavier.

https://www.xtpower.de/XT-16000Q2-Power … t-15600mAh      € 57,90
ArtikelNr.: 101230, Artikelgewicht: 0,41 kg

https://www.xtpower.de/XT-16000Q2-Power … 15600mAh_1  € 72,90
ArtikelNr.: 101254, Artikelgewicht: 0,49 kg

And yes I see no seller, even not on eBay, 0 articles left, also not amazon UK.

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

ramses, some manufacturers of very hi end portable preamps that I'm in contact with at the moment to get a 'boutique' front end to the adi-2 pro, are using drone batteries... to power their equipment, they say that they are the best option. One is Rens Heijnis from Sonodore (http://www.sonodore.com) and the other one is Scott Sedillo from Pueblo Audio who is putting out the Isleta portable preamp, due in the next months. Both are VERY picky, almost obsessed, about reliability of power sources for their stuff. If I could undo buying the xtpower I'd look for a drone battery, there's plenty of options for very decent prices. Of course if you look into location sound shops like pinknoise in the uk there's plenty of options for the professional cinema guys but they are super expensive and very heavy, not to mention the specialized hirose connection which is not useful for us..

The new one has the same issues and is not useable with the ADI-2 Pro.

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

I will order this one soon for testing:

https://www.amazon.de/XTPower%C2%AE-MP- … 9&th=1

There might be a problem though that is already mentioned in the description text - the unit requires a load of at least 2.5 Watts for the 12 V output to work. This might cause start-up problems as the ADI-2 Pro draws less current/power when connected and switched on for a short time.

I will also try the jump-start LiPo pack that I have lying in my car, similar price, also provides 12V out.

Re: ADI-2 Pro: Problems using Powerbank Xoro MPB 1500

So I ordered the bigger version:

https://www.amazon.de/XTPower%C2%AE-MP- … 9&th=1

This powerbank is quite amazing, and works flawlessly with the ADI-2 Pro. I'm sure the smaller version linked above does as well.

The powerbank is compact and not too heavy. It has some really nice features: two USB ports which are fully compatible to Apple (both charged my iPad with 2.1 A), one of both also supports Quick Charge 2 (Android). One standard DC output for 12 up to 24 V, adjustable. It can provide a lot of power (65 W). The ADI-2 Pro, playing music to a headphone, played exactly 5 hours. The LCD tells you how much Watts are currently drawn (between 12.5 and 14 with the ADI-2 Pro), what output voltage is selected (I chose 12V), and how much juice is left (switched itself off shortly after 0% was shown). The display is more accurate than I expected, for both state and power measurement.

I also measured the quality of the 12V output. The lower voltage of the internal LiPos is processed by some step-up regulator to 12, 16.5, 19, 20, or 24 V. On my older 10,000 mAh powerbank I can clearly see the switching frequency as needle within a spectrum measurement. This (newer) 20,000 mAh version either has a better stepup regulator or better filtering - there is no switching needle visible at all.

Finally this power bank can not only be charged via 5V mini USB (which takes some time), but also backwards via the DC output. The optional power supply charges it with up to 30 W (also displayed on the LCD) via 20V and 2 A, so charging takes about 2.5 hours only.

Like I said - really amazing!
