Topic: Manual for new revision of DAC using AK4493 but not original

While looking something up in the manual which I accessed via the downloads page of the ADI-2 DAC product page (https://www.rme-audio.de/adi-2-dac.html), it opened as v2.0 while the description said it was v1.8 with a different link than usual:
https://www.archiv.rme-audio.de/download/adi2dacr_e.pdf for v2.0 instead of
https://www.archiv.rme-audio.de/download/adi2dac_e.pdf for v1.8.

What I found on page 57 is this new sub-section SD LD (Short Delay Low Dispersion) and updated section 31.5 DA Filter Curves 44.1 kHz

However, while it looks very interesting it's not available with FW 33 on my DAC.

Given that the link is different than usual, I suspect this version of the manual should not be out yet and we might have to wait for at least the next FW update to be able to try the SD LD filter. Note however the date of the measurement: 28 August 2019. This could have possibly been brought out in an earlier FW update.

Further there is also a new THD measurement on page 59

Looks very good. I do wonder however what the characteristics (frequency, Q, attenuation) of the notch filter are. Also, if those measurements are for the DAC it should be RCA/Cinch instead of TS.

EDIT: Edited title of thread. See post below.

Re: Manual for new revision of DAC using AK4493 but not original

The impulse response of the SD LD filter looks a lot like AKM's Low Dispersion filter that is available on the AK4493 but not the AK4490.

A closer look at the product page confirms that a revised version of the DAC uses the AK4493 instead of the AK4490.

That would explain the 'r' in the link for the manual and all the other differences.

The possibility of a revised version using the AK4493 has also been discussed previously on the forum.

Anyways, the downloads page for the ADI-2 DAC product page should be fixed.

Also, since the revised version has different specs and filters, will there be different manuals for the original and the revised version or how will the differences between the version be treated in one manual for both?

EDIT: Manual v2.0 is stated as version 2.1 in the Appendix on page 71.

Re: Manual for new revision of DAC using AK4493 but not original

Seems I should of waited a little before buying.. literally got the ADI2DAC a week ago and there's already a revision with better SNR coming. No wonder it was so hard to find stock somewhere. Bummer.

Love the filters as well, even though it's very hard to hear the difference in actual music, you can observe the difference (and how it would translate to listening music) by using pink noise. Personally I like the SD Sharp filter as it adds a bit more warmth in the overall frequency response.

Would be curious on the new filter.

That's exactly where it went.
