Topic: Using FF400 with 2014-Present Macbooks? Anyone have success?

Hi all. I own a macbook 2012 that runs both my FF400/800 perfectly. I recently tested my FF400 using a 400/800 converter cable (as I do normally since firewire 400 ports do not exist on macbooks), but with one of the Apple firewire 800->thunderbolt adapters. The FF400 turns on and off for seconds at a time continuously when doing this for some reason. Possibly because the 400/800 cable? I did this to test if my FF400 would work with newer Macbooks when I eventually buy one and I'm frightened now. I'm curious if anyone has any success using newer Macbooks with their FF400s particularly since I know the FF800 works perfect with the adapter. Any good solutions? Thank you!

You did not use an external power supply for the FF400. TB is limited to 7 Watts of power delivery - not enough.
