Topic: Question about SteadyClock

If this technology is applied at the WC input of all RME devices in a multi-interface system which are being clocked by a house clock (Antelope Isochrone OCX HD in this particular case), wouldn't the SteadyClock basically defeat the incoming signal, making the house clock pointless?

No. Steadyclock locks to the incoming word clock phase. It does not create an offset - or even worse, an independent clock. That would defeat the whole purpose of a word clock input.

Hmmm....so it appears that it does reclock?

The SteadyClock technology of RME's latest products guarantees an excellent performance in all clock modes. Its highly efficient jitter suppression refreshes and cleans up any clock signal, and provides the clock signal as reference clock at the word clock output. At the same time, analog conversion is performed on a guarateed level of highest quality, completely independent from the kind and quality of the used reference clock. The cleaned and jitter-freed clock signal can be used as reference clock in any application. And the quality of the external (input) clock doesn't matter anymore.

Independent from the quality of the clock, not independent from the external clock itself.
But it is a semi proven fact (semi because not tested with all combinations, but only some) that no device improves its jitter when clocked externally, no matter how much better the external clock is.  It will either worsen when clocked externally (cheap or bad design) or at best stay the same (best and more expensive design). And that is what RME says, this device will have just as good jitter result when clocked internally and externally.

Or are you confusing reclocking and SRC (sample rate conversion) at same sample rate?

Understand that SRC is a different subject. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
